i led yesterday's daily, since PM had no time and asked me to replace him.

in the beginning, i started the round with exactly the same words the PM always used, which made one of the Indian colleagues burst into laughing with muted mic

daily was held.
after the daily, 3 colleagues thanked me and commented on how awesome daily was, which made myself burst into laughter.

my theory is that people like daily standups where they are not steamrolled, interrupted and snapped at all the time.

That sounds like "people skills" and is usually highly relevant when hiring PMs. About as important as it is for a dev to be able to switch on a computer. ^^

What's most intriguing is that a good daily needs no moderation.

A good daily is really simple iteration of what's done vs what's expected to be done.

Isn't it terrifying and fascinating how this simple concept can be done so incredibly wrong in most cases.....?

@IntrusionCM This is so true. It's a dead simple process and yet, needs only one person to come in and mess it up for everyone.
