About to post my first question on SO.

Wish me luck.

Just make sure you've searched for answers to your question first, and that you provide relevant code that you've tried. Avoid saying things like, "it doesn't work." If you're getting any errors, tell us what they are.

In addition to what @Cruiser said, basically structure your question as:
    - here's what I want
    - here's what I'm doing
    - here's where it's failing
    - here's why it's failing
    - here's how I've tried to fix it

I've found that these questions are overwhelmingly well received

@Jeeter couldn't have said it better myself

@Cruiser @Jeeter thanks. Makes it less scary

@Jeeter this should be in the guidelines when posting a question

@Jeeter Excellent, I need to pin your answer as a template for next time I ask something on SO.
On a side note: It's so sad that op is scared to even interact with SO community, something needs to change on that site.

@cjbatz as an SO admin I must object. There's already a shitload of terrible questions that cause countless hours of moderation work every day. Most people are so used to find answers on SO they're using it as if it was a better Google.
