    do you use the usb-c adapter?
    if so, it's a known hardware bug of the adapter/usb-c port. I can' use my asus monitor with my macbook because it flickers randomly.

    Are you using a Jetbrains IDE? They have problems running on 4k, produce lag. Reason is the underlying engine in Java which can't handle rendering on 4k.

    I'm using the Display to MiniDisplay cable.

    Also, I just realized the lag is only on MacVim when in fullscreen or big enough :/
