So, I lost my job a couple of weeks ago, and on a whim I decided to post an ad on a classifieds website advertising websites done cheap. Next thing I know I'm making money doing something I love as opposed to dealing with assholes at a checkout counter. I know the freelance life has its ups and downs but I'm happy!

This is awesome, congratulations. I'm hoping if I read enough of these it will give me the push I need to finally polish up my coding skills and go freelance.

Glad for you. I've been wanting to freelance for so long. I have no idea how to talk to clients. Any guide?

Well done mate and nice to hear you picked yourself up. I'm trying to jump as there's an internal war between the two directors and I can foresee the inevitable fall of the company.

I did the same almost 1 year ago and I'm happier now. No regrets.
    Good luck man!

@loserboi really all I did was just post an ad on a classifieds site and let them come to me. Just be straight and honest with them and keep communication open and it should be pretty simple. What I've found is that rarely do clients actually know what they want, so I've been pretty lucky in that I've basically had free reign when it comes to my work.

@BadReg Seriously just pop an ad up there. You may not get too many clients (which is why I'm still looking for work LOL) but it's always good to have some extra money, and it's good for experience/portfolio building!

What are your modes of communication? Which is the main one? Video call scares the hell out of me :(

@loserboi I try to do as much as I can over text, just in case someone tries to scam me. But I've had a few meetups and phone calls. No video calls, yet, but I am new. I've never been one for social situations myself, but it's important to remember that you're the expert here, not them. They came to you for a reason.
