Just seeking approval for spending money. What do you guys think:

2x 1080p 24" 16:9 or
1x 1080p 34" 21:9 or
1x 1440p 34" 21:9?

    3× 1280×1024 19" 5:4
    Cheapest

    2 1080p 24"

Prefer 2 monitors compared to 1 ultrawide

    1x 1440p 34" (21:9) then a second monitor (1080p 16:9) when you can.

I've been using a 21:9 monitor for quite some time now, and it's really amazing. But it's always nice to have a second one.

    e6420, PR02X, two Belinea 101920 and one NEC LCD195NX

1x 1440p tbh. At that size, it should be better than two 1080p 24"

My configuration is still the widest, if not the largest here (I guess just in pixels, not in area). Probably even excluding the laptop. And still the cheapest, probably even *including* the laptop.

@ArchieT you take your frame buffer very seriously.

    3×176.1in² = 528.3in² (3×1136.11cm²=3408.33cm²), 3×1310720px=3932160px, 86.27 PPI

@Jilano +1 on ultrawide, its great

You can buy good 19" 1280×1024 monitors for scrap price, and the setup is very modular. Color balance can be adjusted, so the only thing that sometimes doesn't match is the time it takes them to wake up, and my old NEC LCD195NX also shows a pop-up for like 2s.

    Switched from 2x24" 1080p 16:9

    To 1x34" 1440p 21:9

My eyes thank me everytime I sit in front of it.

2 monitor. Or 3 if you have the budget.
    2 of the same monitors.
If you buy 3, it's great and you can have one in the center. If 2, please keep one in center and the other tilted. I find it easier to have at least one display I can look straight on.

One, it's aesthetically pleasing. Two, it reduced the strain on your eyes. If you buy two different ones (especially if different resolution / aspect ratio), your eyes will hurt a lot trying to adjust to the variations.

    Or 2 x 3840 by 2160 if you can afford it :O

Go with the 2 monitor setup. Always preferable.

    2 * 27" all day

I use two 24" 1920x1200 16:10 monitors in portrait. Highly recommend.

Seriously anything less than 2x 4k 27 inch screens is painful. 4 x HD per monitor, best thing I ever did.
  • 2
For the cost of those monitor bundles you are consider you could get 1 4k screen :).

1080p is great for gaming -- but only with very high refresh rate (144+) and gsync. And a good card to drive them.

For coding, more real estate is always preferable, so I'd recommend a 1440p (possibly ultrawide; they look quite nice!) -- or a 4k.

Also, go with an IPS panel (or OLED or quantum dot) for significantly better colors. (TN panels are faster [1ms vs ~5-16ms] but have crappy color definition.) If you're going to be starting at it for most of the day, it might as well be pretty!
