Found an old monitor in our garage and decided to hook it up to my laptop. Yes, I am learning how to use Linux :D

@andros705 Yes it is, Ubuntu is a Linux Distro.

@Bobj2008 Lol, you just opened a can of worms there.

In the Linux community, there seems to be a middle ground between Linux and Windows called Ubuntu, and even though it's Linux, some people think that the people who use Ubuntu aren't worthy of claiming they use Linux.

Basically, they are pathetic and absolute bores. Just ignore them and do your thing.

@drRoss that is simply because Linux is just one of many programs needed to operate a GNU/Linux based operating system. It is a common mistake to refer to such systems as 'Linux'.
You can't actually 'use' Linux either because it doesn't have any user interface. However you can use other programs that interact with the kernel called Linux.
If in doubt ask Richard Stallman about this topic: https://gnu.org/gnu/...

@drRoss Pretty much. It's mainly because in Ubuntu (insert version because i forgot) canonical made a deal with Amazon to sell user search queries (in that unity menu thingy) to Amazon for advertising purposes. The worst thing was that it was a default opt out instead of opt in. That was also the moment i abandoned it. That aside, it is a real Linux distro!

But anyways, have fun and feel free to mention me if you have any questions!

@linuxxx AFAIK that was only the case in 14.04

    They removed it in 16.04
