Just wondering how many hours a week do most programmers work in your country? How many days a week, and is overtime usually expected from you?

40 or so if you work full-time

40 hours, 5 days a week. Labor rules are quite strong but it depends on the size. Smaller or fresh companies often coaxes more since all wish to succeed.

Larger companies often have more rigid unions. And its very hard to fire employees without a very good cause.

You can be required to do overtime but even that is strictly regulated.

If you dont strive to make a carrier you dont have to do excessive overtime.

On the other hand, with a shortage of skilled developers you can make good money working extra if you like.

Well... I read many times that in europe ppl work less hours.. and dont get me started on vacation days.. we are lucky to get 13-15 per year.

@vortex Well I'm still studying but yeah that's very common if not standard over here. Vacation usually 2-3 weeks a year!

I am CS student. I work for 8 hours learning some new things, building some basic app locations for practice purpose. Is it good start as I am going to make my career in app development?

35-40 hours, salaried. Overtime is not usually expected. Typical hours are 9-5.
