That's one big problem of headphones, they deprive you from environment awareness, that's why I don't use them at work.
In the other hand I don't have any noisy or annoying coworkers to deal with

I had a friend in high school who had a desktop widget that displayed what his webcam saw at all times.

@lorentz I love that. There's a wall behind me, so they come at me from the side. Unfortunately my peripheral vision is slightly lessened due to hair which is how they get me.

Move your desk into a corner, so your peripheral vision covers all angles of approach. Also get a bigger Nerf gun and stock up on ammo signaling your combat readyness to deter further attacks.

Same. I turned my furniture slightly to have some chance of noticing. But that is hard anyway when you are fully committed to some serious 80:s hard rock on high volume and deploying to production. (Head and arms moving in peculiar patterns)
