I almost did not write any code for the entire week. But I talked to a few people…LIKE A BILLION OF THEM!!!
My calender has completely gone crazy Bonanza big time in like a few weeks and org now want me FUCKING FLY TO A DIFFERENT COUNTRY to explain some rudimentary stuff for a bunch of folks. And I’m like… what about using a telephone and computer instead, I got a life you know!? People are fucking calling in from India, US and Pakistan every day but I need to go to a neighbouring country for this shit!? Turns out manager there is fucking crazy and HATES video calls and I’m like… yeah now I am REALLY not fucking going there!!!
Family will suffer, I will suffer, planet will fucking DIE.
Stupid crazy bosses…5 -
Jr a little low while trying to do some stuff. Took down the prod sql server for a while. Some disturbance but not the end of the world but she’s a little low.
I am like: GREAT WORK!!! NOW YOU ARE LEARNING!!! 💪
Time for cake and celebrations!1 -
Rant.
FUCK-WINDOWS-11! What crap! I got a gazillion CPUs, a shitload of memory and windows like:
”Don’t care! Gonna run slow and also not work at all…”14 -
Clown manager put three juniors (and ”senior” dev on work visa) on new project.
They will never finish it.
It’s too hard for them with some legacy dynamically created complex database queries which will spook the hell out of them!
But managers like, ”it’s going to be good” and ”making good progress”.
Fuck no! Putting juniors together? With little support? It such a waste. They spent weeks just to get even the slightest progress.
No best practise. No tests. Just hacking away.
It’s a failure of the management! We fail our juniors and they will quit as soon as they get the chance and they feel like they have some wind under their wings.
”It’s going to be good”
Pff. Clowns leading this company.1 -
Rant. (I love and respect all people! Especially developers.)
You frontend imbecils! I just can’t deal with you any more. I’ve had it.
Stop-inventing-new-components-where-there-are-fully-developed-and-working-concepts!
I mean. Just fucking stop! If I see another worthless datetime picker with an ”innovative” design I am going to hunt you down and freaking scream in your face.
And make fucking buttons look like tappable/clickable. It’s not fucking hard! Imbecils.
Oh, ooo, look at me, I am a frontend developer and I am in UX la-la land and what I am doing is sooo hard. Fuck off with your fucking moving gradients and n:th-child childish playground.
”Yeah, I exchanged the spinner…”
Fuck you. Your not contributing. Nobody cares! We’re not doing anything for the business by having a web which can be seen on a fucking telephone. EVERYBODY IS SITTING WITH SEVERAL GIANT MONITORS AND A FUCKING WORKSTATION FOR THIS. NOBODY ASKED FOR IT. AND YOU SPEND COUNTLESS HOURS ON IT.
”Yeah, I made the site work on ipad”
Please. Why? It’s not worth anything. Zero value.
”Yeah, the toggle component is now changed since we started to use the biddle-flipflup lib and it works almost the same”
No! NO! It does not work ”almost” the same. The psychology of the toggle is now wastly different. What was On before now looks like Off and it is fucking worse!!!
Imbecils. I hate you.
And no, I can’t do your fucking work! And I know that you do other non-ui stuff as well sometimes… but anyway… I have no interest to be in that clusterfuck that modern frontend is today. It was really fucking bad twenty years ago and it is just as bad today and you are not helping.
”I’ve improved the button so now it aaaaalmost does not look like a button. But I am getting there!”
Fuck you.12 -
I’ve been promoted.
I now will get zero percent more leverage when leadership wants to hire more incompetent developers. 😬5 -
So, management seem laser focused on hiring folks with work visa. What’s up with that? The latest five new employees. At least two of them utterly useless (have not worked with the others).
These are devs. ”Senior” as stated by closest manager. 😬 Yeah…ok.
It such a worthless leadership. It’s alot about
”We successfully filled the position for a senior developer”
or
”I am happy to announce that the new release manager for system X has been hired”
All about numbers. Closing the deal. Never about quality.
I guess salary is a BIG issue here and that is why we see this. I have no problem with VISA employees. But they seem bad at what-they-are-doing. Just…incompetent. *sigh*2 -
Ahh, management. They now decided to implement yet another clown role. Release manager…
😬
I am leaving. I just must leave this workplace!
They have so many roles now and it’s getting increasingly difficult to avoid them. I thought we were flying low before to avoid the radar (we use ci/cd, all automated, deploy all days of the week, so we are good. I mean, we go from business need to implement with (some) quality in minutes. Yes, we make mistakes and we fix them rapidly and continuously).
It will be difficult to stay. I really thought I would enjoy it here but management is making it pretty clear that they are not serious about software. They want fancy titles and pretend to work.
Fire em all I say! No one will notice that they are gone. 🤷🏼♂️4 -
Worked with a bunch of talented people today. Sat for the most of the day analyzing an incident together. Dividing the different possible issues among us, crunched the data, trying to understand the code and business. Some tricky calculations. Fixed the issue and deployed to all environments.
Getting motivated and talanted people together is key to everything. Nobody was silent and many people said
”I don’t understand”
Which led to even further deep dives. It was great.
JIRA was nowhere to be found.
(Yes, we found two more issues when doing all this work!)2 -
I got a bunch of newbies deploying to production this week. Should be fun watching everything BURN!
(I am on standby)5 -
Newly hired developer who calls himself ”senior” on linkedin has not contributed for 6 months. At least. I have been very helpful on many pair programming sessions. Directing him. Being extremely precise how things works and are working together. Small and big picture. He calls me and ask questions and I answer. Explain. Again and again. But it does not stick.
Nothing.
Extremely precise tasks. Written specifically for him.
Nothing.
He has like 10 commits in one year. It’s the worst I’ve seen in a developer role.
The other day in a zoom meeting he failed to declare a variable correctly. He copy/pasted a line instead and renamed the variable.
I saw this early. But I need not to work with him for a long time. It is now very clear that he will never contribute but in fact decrease the velocity of the team.
One year is a long time.
He is stupid. He can’t learn. Did he not tell the truth about himself when management hired him?
It so sad they hired him.13 -
Sooo, turns out, management and senior PMs, technical PMs, service managers and you name it forgot an entire system.
A complete eco-system of applications, queues, services, load-balancers, deploy pipelines, databases, monitoring solutions, etc, etc, that if not handled correctly could effectively put the entire production line to a standstill.
So, waaay too late they make this discovery. In their ignorance. Just utter incompetence. Huge project. Millions of $. And they forget it. Months of meetings probably. Workshops and gettogethers at cozy hotel complex discussing ”the project”? And they do not understand some of the fundamental building blocks…
Basic engineering for these guys must mean something completely different.
I can’t even.
I am so fed up with this organization. It does not stop either.
How is this possible…
Do they even have half a brain? -
My boss, delusional as always and getting worse every week, conveys the news that eight interns have been taken on. Without asking us seniors if that would be a good idea.
Us: ”who should, you know, actually help these good people out?”
Boss: ”we will have to work that out”
Us: ”we don’t have the time actually to do this without seriously pushing deadlines forward”
Boss: ”we will have to work something out so that this does not happen”
Us: ”soo, we don’t have to actually help these guys and girls once they are here?”
Boss: ”no, they obviously need a lot of help. What we do here are really complex”
Us: 😬8 -
I am not overly excited about my team, the team lead, my manager, my managers manager, my managers co-managers or my managers manager manager.
Further, I am not that confident that management actually became management due to competence. I now believe that management got to be management because they think (wrongly) alike. This is not a comfortable thing to dwell on.5 -
My five cents. People who actually don’t _know_ anything have a tendency to speak a lot of what they have been doing and are doing and what they are going to do. That is what they do. They talk a lot and can’t wait to get into the next meeting. To talk.
I’ve been at it for 16 years and I can spot this behaviour a mile away.
It’s the silent guys and girls you want! Quiet. And competent. Because, they know they have nothing to prove.5 -
Another consultant. He/she sends out meeting request about system X to me and a few other guys/girls. X is actually a, you know, global thing. It is well known but not incredibly famous but well known.
But she/he mispells it. It is not even close. So, he/she just guesses how it should be written. It is not a big thing. But I am truly interested, and a little worried, about how that kind of mind work. Is she/he convinced that that is how X should be written? I think not because X is not an actual word but just a product name. In this case the product name is synonymous with the company name. If you pronounce X as he/she has written it will just be distinctly different than the correct way of saying it.
So I got this meeting request in my calendar which just sits there in its erroneous way and it irritates me. Mostly, I am annoyed by the fact that he/she did not bother to look up the correct spelling. And it has now been a week or so and it has not been corrected so I must then conclude that he/she still is ignorant of X. Which leads me to the conclusion that he/she is not really that motivated.
I am perhaps a grumpy old developer but I do think I can spot incompetence a mile away nowadays. I’ve been at it for over 15 years now.1 -
Somewhat sad when team lead names a Sharepoint document library as ”a repo”.
I am not surprised. I am used to this level of incompetence. But…still.
I am aware of the generic nature of the meaning of the word repository. I just find it very sad that people with no actual competence try to make it look like they actually knows something.2 -
Over the course of a few months I have concluded that the newly hired _experienced_ developer is… not so experienced. In fact, it is very unclear what he/she actually brings to the table at all.
How this individual actually got hired is proof that middle management has no clue of what they are doing. And it is poison to the organization. Bad management (middle/semi-upper in this case) is such a waste. More so than the newly hired incompetent developer. I am beginning to think she/he actually lied during the interviews. And I am not alone in my suspicions. -
Has anyone seen an AI/ML/whatever in the wild? I mean, an _actual_ implementation in production that is actually used.
And Powerpoint slide does not count (unless it of course were created by AI/ML/whatever).
I hear a lot of big words from management but I can’t see anything anywhere.9 -
Middle dev manager calls us all to the weekly meeting and she’s like
”Yeah, I haven’t got anything to discuss”
Inspiring!
I got to leave this dysfunctional place!!!9 -
Why is tech management so f-ing distant? Very often NOT in meetings which they created and very not interested in anything the team/teams do. It is really a large offset between the work actually being done, the day-to-day operations that we do and the competence of management to acknowledge the fact that we actually do those things.
A lot of times they just stay silent in meetings and in the end they say something to try and make some conclusion and perhaps something ”funny” to try and lighten up the atmosphere. They fail on both of their tasks. They have no clue and are not interested in learning.
I feel like many of them don’t actually do anything. They are often ”away” but it is really unclear what that means.
I think it is symptom of a truly dysfunctional tech process. Bad leaders tend to hire more bad leaders and it is a toxic circle ending in good competent people leaving wanting more in the leadership.2 -
Meetings entire day. Management/PMs fucked things up and forgot an ENTIRE system. They just spend A YEAR for the requirements. A YEAR!!! Just unbelievable. Guess who has to shoot from the hip just fucking guessing things to fix it before everything should be in production? So sad. I just have to quit this incompetence. Just…incompetence. I know it is complex but to forget an entire eco-system of applications is just beyond idiotic. One whole year and God almighty know how many workshops and business travel expenses. I am fucking distancing myself from this organization. I have no hope. No hope.3
-
My department is being taken over by incompetent, unfriendly and micromanaging waterfall-loving managers. I am fucking leaving!1
-
I am just thrilled about the new employees! They are so talented…
O-M-F-G!
Who hired these people!? It-is-incredible! (Actually, I know who hired them!) Just unbelievable amount of wasted time holding their hand on every step of the way. 10 years experience? I-think-not! This will not working out!
Don’t even speak understandable English. Just difficult to know what they are asking since they lack the basic principles of the english language.
Beginning of the end.
Imbeciles!9
