After 3 weeks of being interviewed on upwork she replied today and told me

"Sorry, the only reason we cant hire you is because the client wants only EU passport devs"

.....

Is this my fault? How is this my fault? EVERY FUCKING TIME WHEN I TRY TO SUCCEED AT ANYTHING LIFE JUST FORCEFULLY REJECTS ME FROM SUCCEEDING AND IT IS ALWAYS BECAUSE OF THE LUCK THAT I DONT HAVE. HOW IS IT MY FAULT FOR BEING BORN IN A GARBAGE BULLSHIT PIECE OF SHIT COUNTRY AND IMMEDIATELY HAVE HUGE DISADVANTAGE IN LIFE? HOW IS THAT FUCKING FAIR??? WHY DO YOU GIVE A FUCK FROM POLITICAL REGIONS WHERE I AM BORN IF I CAN DO THE DEV JOB RIGHT????? WHST RHE FUCK IS THIS FUCKING LOW LIFE ABOUT IF I ***NEED*** LUCK TO BECOME SUCCESSFUL. NO MATTER HOW SKILLED OR HARD YOU TRY YOU WILL ALWAYS APPARENTLY FAIL IF YOU ARE MISSING ***LUCK***

    Haven't you been paid thousands of dollars by doing professional projects?

    You know, I emancipated from my parents with barely 1000 euros in my account.

    Sure, it was not to another country but a huge leap in cost of living nonetheless.

    So, if you really are that convinced that it's exactly that limiting you, use that money and settle in, dunno, Croatia, Greece, Romania...

    I only know Spanish law regarding this, and here it's 10 years living here for citizenship (and thus passport), but it's reduced to just 2 if you are from specific countries such as Portugal. I'm sure Serbia has similar arrangements with neighbouring countries.

    Then you can have your EU passport and cruise on, right?

    Your rants does not make sense

    Apart from the big absurd injustice in the world this a really fuckup, since they could have known this before interviewing you. The knew that you are from Serbia so why even bother interviewing you? I don't know if it makes it any better, but this kind of shit happens on other levels two: a friend of mine tried to apply for a professorship at an canadian university. *After* he made it through the whole application process (which is huge for a professorship as you can imagine and even includes holding a demo lecture), they found out they can't hire european citizens for some shitty reason...

    So do you try to stay at your place and get a remote job/gig in EU, or do you want to get inside EU with a job? I am not an expert in this kind of stuff but i think the latter is more realistic tba. Paying someone outside EU is very difficult with the tax laws. But the desperation for devs is immense, so some companies and even public institutions are providing work visa. They sometimes even hire Pakistani devs.

    @CoreFusionX i have but for a few months until the project got developed. "A healthy patient means a loss of customer"

    @Linux life does not make sense

    @horus it was supposed to be a remote job. They could have said right away they dont want to hire me or not reply to me at all because my first submitted message was with my CV where it clearly says what country im from

    Also how can indian/pakistani devs get visa more easily than i can??

    And who gives a shit about visa if im supposed to work remotely? Why is it important that i have EU passport to work as dev?? Wtf

    @b2plane

    Because if the company is EU based, not only is much easier for them to do bureaucracy. (There is freedom of work in the whole EU), but if you ever needed to actually go there, it's also a non-issue, because as long as you are employed, you just need your national id and you are set.

    @CoreFusionX it's not about the company its about the client the company works for. The company's client doesnt want non EU devs

    My country is not in european union so I don't have EU passport and thats why they cant hire me. For only that reason

    Luck doesn't exist.

    @b2plane

    And that's why I refer you to my first comment.

    @Hazarth it goddamn does. Someone born in wealthy family does not have to stress about working for his entire life just because he was lucky to be born there. Undeserved. Unfair

    Most really successfull people where born into the right circle and had shittons of luck. That is just how it normally works.

    But you don't have to be really successful to live a simple and humble life. Lower your expectations and try to advance the local economy instead of jumping on the braindrain train.

    @b2plane You need the passport wo work for a company inside eu most likely because of tax regulations. They is no legal way for the employer around this, or at least none without great effords and costs. I really doubt you will find a legal remote job at an european company without a branch in serbia.
    When you try to move inside eu, I think for you, as dev, when you are somewhat good it should be possible. Because, as i said, some companies hire from abroad and provide work visa. But you had to move. Learn a language. Make fucking shitty racist citizenship test. Humilating stuff like this. But you, as a dev, have some good chances, which the majority of the world population sadly hasnt't.

    @b2plane people build their own luck. My family started with nothing and worked hard to get where they are, and I'm better for it. And I'll do the same for my kids, and make sure to keep growing the financial security of my future generations.

    See, luck is not something you get or don't get, it's something that your parents and their parents and so on and so forth worked very hard to get. To take it for granted is a mistake, and to except it is foolish.

    Sure, your circumstances may suck, but if all you do about is say "well fuck, I guess I was born wrong" that's like saying "my parents didn't work hard enough so I can be comfortable"

    as far as I'm concerned, the only reasonable approach to life is to try to build something no matter what are the circumstances, and never expect anything from anyone. Everything that is given to me is a pleasant surprise, and what is taken is an annoying setback, but I never account for any luck. There's no luck, there's just circumstances

    @b2plane quit the whining already, some people are very privileged, some are born in a setting where they have. 80% chance of starving to death before they are 7 years old. Some people have it easier than others. Deal with the hand you were given, nothing else to be done
