Can we stop down-voting things for no reason, it's really starting to grind at me as we have worked hard to make this community awesome.

maybe, in the spirit of being positive towards our colleagues, DevRant should remove that button?

@undefined it has a purpose but some clowns like to abuse that right.

The next version of the app will require a reason to be selected for each downvote on a rant, which is being added to help deal with reposts and downvote abuse.

@NoNameCode yeah, and I think that's a good policy. Some people also downvote frequent reposts, which I think is valid too. The purpose of the new system is that each downvote will be marked with reasoning and we can decide how to calculate that. For example, when someone's post gets marked as a repost, they will get nicely notified.

The new system will also include some useful functionality to completely discount all of a user's downvotes.

@dfox Great feature in my eyes, hopefully it will be enough of a hinderance to keep future abuse happening.

@dfox Sounds like great stuff :) This app is getting some nice features by the sound of it

Thanks all, glad everyone seems to like that feature. I'm finishing up an overhaul of score calculations (will hopefully go live tonight) and then the new stuff should come to the app some time next week. Right now all score calcs are done on on-demand and aren't actually stored anywhere. This provides in general maximum accuracy, but there's obvious performance issues as we grow and it's hard to actual run a lot of conditions when calculating like that. New system should make the app more performant when loading almost every screen and allows for the more advanced algos for downvote/score control.
