Why is every innovation trying to go towards "replacing programmers"? like, what have we done to you?

GitHub CoPilot will replace programmers!
AI will replace programmers!
This/That tech will replace programmers!

Nobody says,

"Programmers work remote so we don't need to hire managers anymore!"

"Programmers wrote a monitoring script for progress tracking, so no need for managers anymore!"

"We are asking people to install sprinklers everywhere so we don't need firefighters!"

"We can just have one teacher record the subject material once and re-use the same video every year, so now we don't need to hire teachers anymore!"

"We are making everything legal so we don't need to hire policemen!".

Why is everything trying to replace programmers?

GitHub CoPilot is aimed at programmers. It isn't aiming to replace them.

Also: Yes, AI will replace programmers - and managers and most other jobs. But that will still take decades to centuries depending on advancements in the AI fields and acceleration hardware. Actual devs will probably in the last group to be replaced.

And yep, someone will try to replace meatcops with robocops - maybe starting an alternative Battlestar Galactica timeline...

The first 2 points have nothing to do with a manager. He's not there to monitor progress or ensure you're in the office.

imho, Manager is mainly supposed to distribute work meaningfully based on individual capabilities, help them develop their skills and to shield the team from upper layer's bullshit.

Although, many don't realize and/or execute these responsibilities and tend to do meaningless shit instead.

@qwwerty You're cherry picking points from my rant and trying to sound smart. Understand the entire context of the rant, dumbass.

@Sid2006 regarding context, i more or less agree with you - the "programmer replaced by ai" hype is dumb

But i still object to the management samples you've put together as it makes even less sense to me

@qwwerty I'm pretty confident that if some of the devs put their head together they could come up with a product that could potentially replace managers.

I'm not that smart enough but still I agree with a script replacing managers as a possibility.
