One thing I've learned in the past year. Never start working on a task that's based on a lot of assumptions.

    A former colleague of mine put it this way: 'assuming' makes an ass – of you and me.

    Good point. If you have to go on assumptions then document the assumptions as part of the plan and let management or client sign off on them.

    @Jumpshot44 yep, that's a great way to do it, and it moves blame away from the team.
