    I wouldn't shake Merkel's hand, either.

    @thedevdevil People being arrested for "illegal opinions" for one. Her scary immigration policies for another. Germany rather seems to be falling apart.

    I don't condone her actions.

    @thedevdevil:

    https://heatst.com/world/...

    Excerpts:
    • "Today, German police conducted nationwide raids on citizens who posted offensive comments or participated in online 'hate groups.'"
    • "Police apparently focused on political hate speech"
    • "Germans can receive up to 5 years in prison for 'hate posting.'"

    So, basically, Germany under Merkel has no freedom of speech. You cannot say things that other people might find offensive. If you have an unpopular or controversial opinion, you can be thrown in prison for it. That is absolutely *abhorrent.*

    To paraphrase Voltaire/Evelyn Hall: "I disapprove of what you have to say, but will defend to the death your right to say it." To do anything else is to condone tyranny.

    That, among many other reasons, is why I would refuse to shake her hand.

    @thedevdevil
    Imprisoned for voicing an opinion.
    What the fuck.

    @thedevdevil That's beginning to happen here in the US as well. If you're not a liberal, you're not welcome in basically any place or group that's predominately liberal. They've been getting increasingly violent, too: character defamation, doxxing, witch hunts, segregation, arson, battery, riots, shootings...

    The "tolerant left" really scares me.

    @thedevdevil The left sees it as "freedom of speech [so long as it does not offend]." If they disagree with you, they claim offense and oppression. It's getting ridiculous. Especially with the media twisting everything they can so it sounds horrible (and making things up when they cannot).

    It's like we're living in a movie. And a very bad one at that.
