DEVil6669172yFuck these hipster meditation apps, you can meditate with literally nothing and if you need some sounds/music/guidance you can get these for free or for cheap from the Internet. No need for another stupid subscription.

Its morally reprehensible, then again, the kid's gonna grow up with access to 179.3 billion dollarinos worth of retail therapy, so I think he will be fine.

The children of the ultra rich aren't the victims of capitalism any more than princes and princesses are victims of feudalism. Being forced into a loveless marriage is not comparable to enslaving entire societies.
-
kiki353242y@lorentz as if capitalism doesn't enslave nations. Yeah, 10 enslaved Indian workers weren't dying in Dubai every single day since 2012, and united fruit company definitely didn't overthrow a government of one particular country. It never happened.
-
@kiki That's exactly what I'm saying, although I'm of the rather unpopular opinion that global inequality is at least in part the fault of the voting citizens of welfare states who are willing to accept personal comfort as a bribe to ignore and even fund and fight for the horrible misdeeds their local elite is committing.
-
kiki353242y@dakkarant Notch is a billionaire too. Money didn't help his mental health. It's the opposite — now he has a very deep depression. Some damage is irreparable, especially the childhood one.
-
@kiki cyancism is contagious. He found out when he got rich that all his friends wanted to ask him for money. Someone making 80,000 a year as a Dev versus someone who has billions? There's a qualitative difference in their roles. And what the freshly minted wealthy version of notch didnt understand. He can't understand it because he's the wealthy one in any of these relationships. Put him back in the shoes of someone making five or six figures, while he has a friend worth billions. It's not an unreasonable proposition for his friends and acquaintances to say hey fund my startup for example, or are you willing to make a loan? It'd be a different story if he had friends from before or just asking for straight up hand out or being jealous.
There are certainly people who could and would take advantage of course, push their luck, act obstinate or entitled and I'd argue those people were probably never friends to begin with. -
In short notch's role in the relationships changed because it's actionable status, in this case as well, changed his perceived social function.
I think it's kind of a f***** up way of thinking but I see why a lot of people think that way. I mean you've been friends with someone for years, and suddenly they make it big, very big, why wouldn't you ask for a favor? You've been friends for years after all. And naturally you do the same for them if the positions were reversed. And so you can see how some people might think. But to the person being asked, suddenly all their friends are asking for favors surrounding their wealth and so cynicism creeps in and they say is that all I'm good for? Were we ever really friends to begin with?
Generally I find when you're in a position to help others, and you see others need help, assuming what they need or or are asking for his reasonable, it does no harm to help them. And it's good for the soul. Notch let his cynicism cloud is judgment. -
And lastly I'll say in my long winded, three part response, amongst the many things that make good friendships and relationships, is to start with the mutually-held desire, goal or virtue, to treat the things that you do for others in a relationship as a sort of rising tide-- if you are in the position to elevate others you should, and should expect the others that you would do that for to do the same for you.
Naturally this is a rare sentiment, and people in all their varied natures can be quite disappointing sometimes. Misuse it's an invitation to become a doormat of course. But when judiciously applied, this approach and attitude to life is the very definition of what it means to treat others excellently.
And I wouldn't have it any other way. -
@kiki Notch became rich as where X2P1158 was born into it.
You don't really see people being born into wealth, or people that gained their capital over a period of years instead of seeing 3 digits being added to their bank account overnight, spiral out of control like that (exceptions aside).
All we can hope is that they won't just become apartheid boy 2.0 -
@kiki See, I have an opposing arguments against the post of yours(Rust build takes long in raspberry pi 3, so I have a lot of time).
You are using some form of strawmanning, finding the worst examples of capitalism and generalizing there. The indian workers in your gotcha.jpeg are the people probably coming to Dubai/Katar and working there in the worst conditions but still they are paid well enough that those indians are still coming by their own choice. Where is the enslavement?
I won't even address anti-wealth arguments: gold colored jeep is not anti-moral.
Endel, the freemium garbage app for meditation sounds that sells its subscription by telling you to “invest in your happy brain” (despite being FDA approved) and has an unskippable onboarding question on whether you was professionally diagnosed with ADHD, made a collab with Grimes.
Grimes and Elon Musk are X Æ A-Xii Musk’s parents.
So, Grimes recorded an “AI lullaby” supposedly “for her son”, that was really just a paid collab with Endel to sell their garbage app better.
Poor kid wasn’t even born yet, and everything about his life was already commercialised.
Imagine having Elon Musk as your dad. Grimes reported Elon abused her. Among other things, he made her dye her hair white, because Elon prefers blondes. How creepy is that? Now the poor kid with a stupid name made up to keep Elon’s stock bubble afloat will live with divorced parents.
This is capitalism for ya.
