Since alot coworkers asked me:
(windows 10)
Press win+tab, klick the "add desktop" thing in the bottom right corner, add as much Desktops as u like. Now change them very smooth with strg+win and <- or ->.

Move windows with the win+tab thing to other desks

I tried multi Desktop for years on linux and with 3rd party tools on windows. It never worked well, was unsexy and bugged or programms could not handle it.

The win10 stuff is the firsr really cool working multi Desktop thing. I still even use it with 2 or 3 monitor setups. I hate to minimize and maximize programms. Usually i got a Desktop to code one for doc, one for Test runs and one for administrative stuff (Outlook, reddit, 9gag).

Try it, you will hate it when you then need to work without it =}

Personally, for me, nothing can beat the workspace experience on Linux based distros. The shortcuts are now embedded deep in my brain.

4 finger swiping on the trackpad can also switch desktops, for the precision trackpads at least

@vergil Yup! Built into Cinnamon DE at least and I know the shortcuts well so that I can just install cinnamon and good to go 😃

@linuxxx Cinnamon got all the keybindings just right.

Leaving this for future reference. It's a feature that I am missing on Windows on my attempt to make a switch.

Is there a way to have multiple desktops but with different icons on each? On my machine if I delete an icon on one desktop it gets deleted across all of them.
Thanks for providing the shortcus too! :D

You haven't tried Pantheon DE then (Elementary OS).

It strips you of the need to actually create desktops. Just move across desktops with Win+Arrows, and move windows to new/existing desktops with Alt+Win+Arrows.

I recently switched from unity to gnome and the virtual desktops there are the best I've tried in my life. Just ctrl+alt+up or down arrow to move desktops

So the conclusion is: multi Desktops are amazing, no matter if u a win or a linux person

@Salmakis Multi desktop ftw anyways yass!

@linuxxx Multi displays is even better though. With 1-3 I still feel the need for virtual ones... at 4-6 displays I'm starting to feel at home. :D

Multi desktop is awesome, also on Linux I use tty a lot, one for each machine I am ssh'd in, with tmux to use as many console windows as needed. Any windows alternatives for that?
