Why do business and systems analyst even project managers try to give estimates for how long development should and will take? I hate how people who don't code and do any real work try totell me how long it would take me.

Cause they need to know how much they're gonna quote the client or budget the software development

I understand your anger. I'm on your side, because i also have to deal with

    "How long does it take?"
    "Three months."
"We already sold and promised two months to the customer."

It sucks and in a good business, management should get data from those who know, us, but part of the process does not always allow that.

Even devs have a hard time estimating time, but it's possible to learn by estimating everything you do, measuring time taken and reflecting on that. Time estimations will always be bad a and wrong and unexpected things can not be estimated, but business requires it, so we have to bear with it. :-(

@paulwillyjean Yes, but they have no idea. Why not take 5 or 10 mins to explain to your developers what they're going to be doing, and them ask them how long they think it'll take.

Exactly all I ask is they consult me first before throwing random numbers they pull out of their asses
