TV4ELP657yI actually have that too. Glasses for filtering blue light does help a bit. But the best thing was to just stand up and get some coffe or tee more often instead of working for 6 hours straight.

Shully11057yf.lux is pretty much what you're looking for. It filters blue light, which is the culprit for your eyestrain. Gunner glasses are good too, but f.lux is free.
I've been using it for some months now and I can tell you it makes a huge difference. -
I do, although a few years ago I purchased a pair of Gunnar glasses which are designed to reduce eye strain. There is a competitor called Gamma Ray's also, which is cheaper, but I found their glasses to be poor quality.

I own Gunnar glasses, about to get some with my prescription so I don't have to pick which ones I want to wear lol! I also keep eye drops at my desk to help keep them from getting too dry. I make sure i wear sunglasses made out of polycarbonate or glass (not acrylic) and that they're polarized. If you can, it's totally worth buying a good pair of sunglasses so you don't strain them from other areas in life, too. If you lose them a lot, just make sure they're not acrylic, protect UV-A and UV-B, and are polarized. Drink lots of water, it'll help keep them freshed. And don't forget to blink.
The looking away is good, too, so definitely keep doing that. -
I installed an app on my PC(Ubuntu Linux ) called safe eyes it's like an app reminds you to take a break at intervals.
It helps a lot ! -
F.lux helps if you code in darkness. The best thing to do is to make a habit of making short breaks and regular blinking. When you do breaks make effort to focus somewhere far too. I had huge eye strain and breaks helped more than anything.

shaji12497y@Shully Linuxer here. I user redshift, and an IPS monitor. But i can't tell if it makes a difference or not. Actually strains after a couple of hours.

shaji12497y@TV4ELP i do that. Coffee a couple of times and just walk around for a bit. That's not 6 hours straight, but rather in shifts of at most an hour

Overall 10h time on pc with work+home. Break for 5 mins as often as you need to. If you can't do that do a hourly alarm. There was an app for that but I have not used them

shaji12497y@tvel do you wear glasses? What prescription? I have 5.5 and 6 in left and right respectively. I put lubricant eye drops up to 10 times a day. I work at most 6 hours in sessions, but it's still too much strain for me.

No I have no glasses. Other think to tweak is monitor brightness. Mine are at 20-30% newer monitors are ok at even less.

Since 3 years old :D I used to but I am fine now. Good monitors and light help a lot.

shaji12497y@tvel what font size? Or a larger dpi? Does a too much large font size hurt too, coz we use monospace fonts? I use a large font and place the monitor Far away. I use black text on white background. What do you use/recommend?
Do any of you guys have eye strain? I worked on a project for like 6 hours day before yesterday and have been having severe we strain since then. Haven't touched my laptop since. My doctor says my eyes are good, just need to follow the 20/20/20 rule, which is, work for 20 minutes, look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds, and repeat.
Do any of you guys have eye strain? Hope many hours do you clock on a PC? What do you do to minimize the strain on your eyes? Do you ever fear you'll go blind?
I have so severe eye strain it gives me migraines 😥
