Getting serious about CISSP as I try getting into security and management.
Any tips for studying this? Anything to keep in mind when I get into leadership and need to not piss off the people smarter than I am?8
I asked my friend to design a flyer for an organization's annual dinner, asking her to send me an invoice so I could pay her (I can't design worth shit, she's doing me a huge favor).
She said she'll do it, declined payment, and doesn't even want me to get approval for her to put it in her portfolio...
How the hell do I pay her back for her work? If we lived in the same town, I'd at least take her to coffee and lunch, but she moved states and I moved countries :(8
14,190 emails deleted. I got too damn many emails this week at work alone. I'm scared to check my personal emails6
Weekly status reports. BITCH, I'M TOO BUSY WORKING TO TELL YOU WHAT I DID THIS WEEK.
Mine are also almost always the same:
"fixed broken thing"
"worked on reports for broken thing"
"helped new teammates fix broken thing"
ISSUES REQUIRING ATTENTION:
"my connection is still shit, like i warned would happen before I moved"
"need workstation already connected to network to reduce connection problems"
These don't help the people who need to be micromanaged, and they just piss off those of us who don't.5
I was taught that an IDS is a passive protection method, and an IPS is active. My security+ boot camp is trying to tell me IDS is active. Thoughts?
And yes, I'm still studying for this, I've been avoiding it because I'm salty I failed by one. But now it's a requirement, so I have no more time to avoid. :(4
What the fuck is a sticker computer??
I'm researching DNA computers for school and there's a potential cryptosystem called a sticker model, based on a sticker computer. Searches across various engines show me results for laptop stickers.7
The internet at large is annoying me.
I just signed up for the payback card through Rewe. Cool idea. It's a German points card, and I have an American phone. Play store tells me the app isn't available in my country, and I don't see it on fdroid.
Anyone have suggestions for a reliable apk site to get this from?8
I don't like web design, but i'm also annoyed the people I want to have do my tattoos don't have anything on their site (just says under construction)...
Would you design a website for free tattoos (if you like tattoos), or is it still more trouble than it's worth?5
I apparently hate myself and have volunteered to help an author I enjoy design his website to be more mobile friendly. Convertri sucks ass, if anyone is wondering. Their mobile "converter" is shit, and does NOT make things pretty, at all. No matter what size or resolution we use (because he's trying to learn) loads like we're back on AOL.
Other than switching sites, any suggestions? Our issue is legitimately only with getting the background image to work on desktop and mobile.3
Suggestions for a good speech to text program for someone who mumbles and talks too fast?
I sliced my thumb while washing a knife and typing on my computer without it is getting annoying3
Husband looking into online schools for CS. Anything data science related. He loves math (and is freaking good at it) and teaches himself R for fun.
I put 0 thought into my own schools (terrible, I know, but not likely to change any time soon). Any suggestions for good online data Science programs, with a math minor potentially?
It's for his bachelor's.6
My current boss' boss. Dude has my back, no questions asked. If I mess up, he backs me up to the customer and then teaches me the right way behind the scenes. Even stands up for me when i'm not around.
He's helped me change my lifestyle, too, connecting me with trainers and coaches who can help develop a workout plan around my one hand. He understands the value of work/life balance, but has no power to change our schedule, so he helps out however he can around that.
He is honestly #bossgoals. I want to be like him when i'm a boss2
Job requirement for mee position opening in 11 days: CISSP...
I want this job. Anyone have tips on how to pass this exam in a week?4
Have to write a 1,000-1,300 word paper on the top trends of my chosen industry. I am therefore researching crimes using computers and other technology. I'm loving the research.
However, I have no idea how to tone my research down so I don't end up (back) on a list for odd Internet searches, and I don't think I want to be on a international list.
Tips for researching the hell out of this topic without flagging Big Brother and ending up with suits at my door (again)?16
I hate working from home. I'm lonely, bored, feel ignored by my leadership, and have so many additional complications with connectivity that don't exist when working on site. I have the chance to almost double my salary in this buyout, but I also really really hope my other job applications give me options2
I know i'm late to week 119... but I just finished assembling my desk.
Pardon the taquito, it's lunch time and I missed breakfast.
I think my desk has a built in whiteboard... 😂16
In tech: too freaking many. A few days (I fell asleep at my desk for power naps).
Ever: 72 hours. I had 6 jobs with only enough of a break to drive to the next. Used lunch breaks to nap.
I found my people. We're going to start late night drunken security certification studying. Germany is fucking awesome. I haven't had anything to rant about since my flight here.
Also, celebration: my terrible boss declined the job offer from the company that bought us out. Life fucking rocks10
Job application asked if I have experience with difficult customers and needing to repeat concepts in different ways.
How many people in the vast field of computers and technology HAVEN'T experienced this?4
Husband's birthday. Out in downtown Wiesbaden celebrating if any german ranters are nearby. I suck at planning so i'm sorry for the late notice3
If I get the new arm I looked at today, I'll always have a battery pack on me. It's USB C and will charge my phone11
These dimwits emailed my receipt for my dues (not shown) AND MY USERNAME AND PASSWORD in the same PLAINTEXT UNENCRYPTED email...
Off to go write a cranky email...11
I'M STARTING GRAD SCHOOL!!!!! I'm so excited I can't think properly. I started screaming in Latin and German mixed with English because I couldn't remember enough words in any one language to express myself, and I'm still certain I was incoherent.
Doing cybersecurity and forensics because I hate having a social life 😎17
Thoughts on 1&1? I have tks now, it's painful. Telekom seems shady af, but I have their mobile plan.
I have no idea how to get unbiased info here, so i'm asking people who actually use the internet to work from home and do more than just surf Facebook and cat videos10
I'm flying Lufthansa right now, and if the wifi on this plane is indicative of German wifi, my rants will become much much much angrier... this is absurd.
For those in Germany with this wifi... HOW DO YOU FUNCTION???!!!?!?!28
Anyone want to build me a smart robot capable of determining what to keep and what to donate (or recycle) so I can stop packing and injuring myself? Would have to me capable of critical thinking and tetrising the shit out of stuff and boxes...
I'm only partially joking... would buy a packing robot pretty damn quickly5
Non dev question for those in Germany... If I need unlimited minutes with the best coverage near Wiesbaden, what would my options be?17
Taking my security+ exam on Tuesday. Any advice on what to pay attention to?
I have 401 and 501 materials since I didn't know which I'd end up taking. I had to register for 501. I have friends who have passed 501 using 401 material.5
Sleep deprivation may have made this funnier than it actually is, but I can't NOT laugh when I see it
