On Android it takes images by effectively doing a screenshot of the camera preview. It doesn't let the image pass through the usual software filters. That's why you may notice that the image quality is worse on Snapchat vs your camera app

@stevemk14ebr I have noticed that, especially with digital zoom. It just turns into a foggy mess. Good lord, I hope people aren't actually using snapchat as their main camera app.
