If everyone follows "Don't write your own crypto " wonder who writes them?

That's why I wrote my own end-to-end thing once. It's outdated tho and I have abandoned it

Hopefully the ones that really understand the stuff. And that is a really small group of people.

I'm too dumb to understand the inner parts of cryptography, and I will never get really deep on this field, but I think I understand the "user" parts of the main cryptographic techniques. And I've seen so many stupid approaches on security where people obviously don't understand the basics and screw it right from the start. So I have to say: Learn it properly or leave it to a professional.

And there are also quite a lot of examples where people or companies try to be smart and implement their own cryptography instead of using standards. Almost any of them failed completely when some talented, motivated security guy analyzed it.

    I like this one:

    https://media.ccc.de/v/...

It's a video of CCC congress about the stuff some fintech startup bubble bullshit company did. And they really screwed everything possible. 30min video, but worth it.

@Jop- But that doesn't mean that their crypto is not bad. I can give a few links if you'd like?
