I'm fine with people who use tabs rather than spaces, and fine with people who use the opposite. But I don't understand the thought process of the mutant child of these two polar opposites.

Either they're idiots or it was a mistake. By mistake I mean for example inconsistent editors.

I originally used tabs because i like the idea of having one character per indent level instead of multiple ones, so spaces feel redundant. The problem with that was that people don't have editors set up the same way, some of them convert all tabs to spaces, some of them don't; some of them display tabs as 2 spaces, some of them as 4 or 8. This caused fair amount of mess with mixed tabs and spaces when multiple people are editing the same file so I switched to spaces since it's less likely for them to be misinterpreted.

@pajaja well things like that should be caught by reviews and automatic code checks. It happens once in a project and then people will set their IDE to the rifht setting dor that project.

@Codex404 it's more of a legacy thing, now almost all editors take care of that behind the scenes
