i have an idea
and i dont think posting it here would be a better idea because you all could actually make it happen
but let me ask this:
Could you theoretically code an os with a highly interractive desktop environment? i'm talking something close to 3D interraction

Well first of all an operating system is a lot more than just a front-end GUI, but yes it's certainly possible you could write a 3d GUI to act in place of the more traditional 2d metaphor.

As @karma points out it's definitely been attempted before, but such attempts have generally failed because the interfaces were not practical and indeed more cumbersome than a 2d interface.

But with VR really taking off, I would say there is a much greater need for such kinds of new methods of interacting with a computer, so it's probably a good time to be thinking about it, if you have some good ideas.
