So it seems the issue is caused by support forgetting to input custom options for the client, so my code pointed at non-existing records and cleanly returned empty strings. So support hasn’t been doing their job either for a while. And didn’t catch any of this either until now. But it’s always the dev’s fault, of course.
Implementing the application exactly like the client specified, because they won't listen.

Dear client, if you can't be bothered to check more than two data points during several test imports, why are you surprised your production import has errors in the other 10k+ data points? We told you to check thoroughly, and you swore it was fine. But great now I get to unfuck production while you're mad you can't go live yet.
