Hey guys, I'm planning to install a Linux in my machine. I have used Ubuntu, debian and fedora before. Which Linux distro would be best to use? I'll be using the environment for development. Looking for lightweight, fast Linux distro. Please suggest.

Whichever you feel comfortable with, that packs the tools of your trade.

You can make Ubuntu "lightweight" simply by disabling unnecessary daemons & using a light DE. Eg. Xfce.

You should try Elementary OS 😀

eOS is not lightweight. He's best going with a distro he's already familiar with and installing a lightweight DE like LXQT or XFCE. Or just learn how to use a WM like IceWM, or Awesome

Maybe just a general Mint machine?

As much as I love Cinnamon, it's not lightweight. Is there a Mint XFCE version?

Void Linux with i3 is probably the least resource hungry I've ever had.

I use Fedora because the OS setup and tools available are closer to our RedHat servers. But really, there's no 'best' to it and it depends on what you want to do with it.

Guys, I wanted lightweight Linux distro because I was going to install it in VM. Now I have decided to install it as dual boot along with my windows. I like Ubuntu, though I haven't tried out many distros other than fedora, debian. Should I stick with Ubuntu or do you guys have better suggestions for powerful distro?

Mint :)

For me Xubuntu does everything I actually need, without UI bloat. Has a terminal, can run stuff, has window manager, has the perk of good driver support for my AMD GPU too. I would argue you can run all the IDEs and tools on most distros, so just pick the one you like looking at :)
