Guidance counselor at school: so what field do you want to go into?

Me: computer science

GC: what does that entail?

Me: programming

GC: that's like super repetitive, right? You're a smart kid don't do that

In my head: no you mf dingle-dong. That's the job that will take your job away from you in the next 5 years

Ffs, why do people think coding and entering data into Excel are the same things?

Yet again, an expert is advising on things he knows fuck all about. Hope so these idiots keep their jobs?

Don't ask guidance counselors for help with anything technical.

Programming is repetitive, it's true, though.

@Wallpaper all I ask for is that the person advising me on careers knows what the heck the career I like entails.

@hitchhiker42 Understood, but they don't know anything unless you're at a technology focused school. I've dealt with many, none of them were qualified to give advice on my field and one almost sent me into something completely different. Your best bet is to look at things online, or hitting someone up that's in the field you're interested in. You're in the right place @ DevRant to ask such questions. ☺️
