A coworker asked me to give him a hand on a project last thursday at around 8:00pm, by Friday noon I had most of it complete. Then turn the code back to him. Then somehow , it got placed on me during the weekend....20 mins before leaving to San antonio to be with my sister while my niece was born. Yeah...no..sorry...guess who enjoyed SA this weekend? This guy. Past experiences have shown me that one should not sacrifice personal time for company bs. Specially here in south texas where the majority of employers are from Mexico. In Mexico, there is no worker appreciation culture, going above and beyond the line of duty to accomplish tasks is not met with any sort of consideration. So nope nope nope nope.

You did the Best thing dude. Work time ends when work time ends. Simple as That. At least if your Not running your own Company.

@Nino9612 eeeeeexactly. Specially since I already gave in my two weeks notice. I like the place and my coworkers, the boss is oldschool as hell but he is a nice dude. But the customer man....this customer has this a la carte system in which they ask for huge items the last moment. "It shouldn't take long" maaaaaaaaan

@AleCx04 i also have this Type of customers when i work. The Best Part is when they say "you just need to make this then it will work its so simple" and they know nothing to about programming. They think its so simple and happens magicly 😒

@Nino9612 yeah and they think that we do everything on computers. The other day they tried to keep me after hours so that I can "clean the browser cookies" on all 64 computers at work. Send them a link on how to do it.

@Nino9612 for the customer. The way it works, i work for a company that provides third party logistics to different companies where I live. Based on many weird reasons, i got sent to the biggest one, where I have my office and everything. The literally bother me for everything. "Word is not saving my document!" Lmao!

I feel it is the other way around, in Mexico we get paid for extra hours, we get free food, free transport, appraisals, promotions (not all of that at the same time of course)

In your side of the border, people leave at 6pm, don't get paid for extra time, stop answering emails or chat, generally stop working because "going the extra mile" gives you more trouble, as you just described.

Plus we have real tacos every fucking day, not only those crappy taco Tuesdays shit.

@mundo03 i have worked in Mexico before, have family that works in Mexico, and I have never heard of any place that gives perks such as free food or transportation. Shit not even Google does that, I even googled for companies in Mexico that give workers free food or transporration. Zip none. I don't really believe it man haha. And I get compensated handsomely for my overtime. Pay is not the issue as I am certain my pay is just fine. Is the concept of worker appreciation which I am sorry but I am not going to get convinced that it exists in Mexico, land of "consegui este jale por mi compadre!" , which is famous for lacking good living wages and or compensantion. :/ i lived there and felt it, ya dig?

@AleCx04 dude free transport is standard in big companies, mainly manufacturing ie: IBM

Free food in startups is also common, ie Ooyala and maybe wizeline.

And over time is a right covered by the law.

There are other perks that are awesome and are there to thank the effort of the people.

Like parties, pizza days, beers on Friday (in ooyala and wizeline there are beers in the fridge every day), gift cards, company swag, free days, bonuses, etc.

I know this does not happen on every place, but all places have something, it is just basic HR activity.

You have a horrible view of Mexico's work environment and I get it.

The companies I listed are American too and I work remotely for a German company.

it all depends where you work and what you do, anywhere in the world.
If you are talking about the guy that cleans shit, or an albañil, a secretary in a shit place, sure man, no perks.

I know a lot of young people in a wide variety of jobs and all of us have perks.

In this app, we are all working in the same industry, and this industry have all most of these perks, even in Mexico.

And yes, google does give this perks and more, you are not looking in the right places.
