I don't know but I feel like most of the php devs are linux users. Then again I could be wrong. You guys will tell me.

Most of the PHP devs at my company use Linux but it looks like they are not very proficient in it. Also it's Ubuntu.

These results are very interesting. Now I am even more curious about it. I might even do a survey on various platform to satisfy my curiousity lol

    Why not both?
I'm using a linux laptop and a windows desktop.

Developing on both devices, but preferably on the laptop.

    Yep, linux for me! :)

Much simpler to setup servers and dev environments and all that jazz...

    Windows is ok too

    Windows, Linux, Android, iOS....
PHP has competition on windows (asp.net), meaning windows users have 2 or 3 technologies available...
Most Linux users hate anything. Net
I hate asp but was a Vb6 programmer back in the day.
The OS is not important, what's important is social... Php is cheaper, specially for hobby projects and open-source projects.
.asp and asp.net is mostly used on enterprise level, together with other. Net technologies.

@RodrigoF Where does nodejs fit in, python is also used a lot in webdev, how do they compare to asp.net

Mac here, but I hardly consider myself a PHP dev. PHP was forced on me, and I'm reluctant to use it (not gonna start a flamewar there, the main problem is not PHP, it's the CMS, we all hate CMS).
