Why THE FUCK does a game of poker need fucking blockchain?
Been at my parents place (in Ostrfriesland) over the weekend.
Only had to fix 2 phones and their printer!
New low score for a long time.1
to;dr: school, raspi, spoofing, public status screen, funny pictured.
So. At school we had these huge ass 2/3 TVs displaying some information such as which teacher is ill, which lessons won't take place and some school related news. Standard stuff.
They worked using a raspberry pi attached to the TV fetching a website over http every now and then.
Using nmap I discovered that these pi's were in the same network as the pupils devices: Sweeeet.
After trying some standard passwords at the ssh port and not succeeding I came up with something different: A spoofing attack.
I would relay all traffic from those pi's through my device, would replace all images with a trollface picture (I know I know) and flip all text upside down.
Chaos, annoyed faces and laughter.
It was beautiful.
tl;dr don't, just don't.
A curious little me (12-14 years) just stated using the family shared computer.
And he thought: It's so slow! Maybe I can make it faster, my parents would be happy!
So he looked at this little switch on the back and he switched it from 230 to 115.
Not knowing what he did, he turned the PC on... for the last time.
Smoke, a nasty smell and a loud bang were the last memories left behind.
The parents were not happy.35
dev goals? get shit done!
I have this common illness among devs:
I start projects and never really finish them.
Hate that. Feels so empty.
So this year I finally want to get shit done.4
A rant about people in general:
I am sick of people not caring, not giving a fuck, not valuing others.
Studying CS this is something I noticed the past year: people tend to not acknowledge that there are other human beings around them.
Some are just focused on getting their degree done and dusted as fast as possible, which is fine.
Some are working to pay the rent or student loans, which is fine.
Others just do their thing, code their stuff, criticize other's code... which is also fine.
But nobody's realizing they're interacting with other people! Other living, feeling human beings. For them it's just about getting it done.
And not just at university.
I've started seeing it everywhere.
At the job I'm working, people in the shops and on the streets.
I don't get it. We are all human on this rocky sphere in space. Why do so many not care for each other?
It makes me sad.3
Been at a startup for 2-3 weeks, hood some presentations about Linux and Foss stuff but they didn't have any work for anyone and as such didn't pay anything.
So a colleague was like "hey man, I seed you making those presentations and stuff but not getting anything back, I think I might got a job for you".
And now I do small data analysis at another company. And get money.
My first day at my first tech job ever: I am super excited.
I was assigned a coworker that would help me get familiar with the company and workflow n stuff.
We agreed on Wednesday and Friday 08:00 - 12:00 as working hours.
Now it's 08:30. He's not there and I am waiting since 07:50.
Sorry, but fuck him.
This is so demotivating...5
A: "Hey let's move our server rack to this room tomorrow so we can set it up."
Me: "sure, 11:00?"
A: "11:00 it is"
Me: arrives 11:00, waits till 12:00.
A: arrives at 12:00 "sup man, sorry I'm late, let's do this"
Me: annoyance-level 6/10 "sure... let's go"
A: "hold on, this guy wants something"
Me: waits another 45 minutes.
I just went to cafeteria.
Fuck you, wasting almost 2h.
I stood up early for this bs.9
tl;dr: thanks! :)
I just love this community.
The idea of devRant is great. The emotions, the shared knowledge in each post. Never seen such densely packed quality content in a social media! :D
I enjoy spending my time here, though I do not post that much. Reading just about the life of @linuxxx, @gitpush @alexDeLarge (to name a few) share with us is just wonderful, it makes me happy! :)
I think this post is meant as a thank you, I guess? Just felt like it... hope you guys don't mind having read a non-dev related post.^^'
@dfox and @trogus, you guys are awesome as fuck!4
My ISP just sent me an email:
I have double the bandwidth for the next 6 month while still paying the same as before. No fishy things, no special conditions...
What a time to be alive.14
So I am new here, hi! :)
So the devRant android app does not seem to support this mail format:
(the important part being the "+devrant" thing)
Now I waited 2 days for a confirmation mail that wouldn't arrive and was greeted with the "please confirm your fucking mail" popup every damn time.
"Okay, let's just change my mail to user@domain and deal with it", I thought. Guess what: You can't!
So I contacted the devrant team via e-mail.
And I waited.
Delete account, recreate with other mail, be happy.
Don't worry, I'm not mad. It's just really fucking ironic.
Looking forward to a great community! :)5
