After going through the initial hurdles and headaches of updating a legacy app, it's usually an enjoyable experience for me.

And it is valuable.

It'll be valuable in some sectors, and systems integrator positions are slowly becoming exactly that. Just stay away from startups and the established tech shops and I think you will have job security ad nauseum.

If you learn cobol, you'll be indispensable ;)
