Any javascript nerds what to come play with me in a devrant-related project? I need help with cross-origin JSON.9
-
OK, you sick fucks, tell me what WordPress plugin I should make next.
Rules: it needs to be a single-task kind of thing, because I want it done in less than a week and preferably under 200 loc because I have a life, so no gravity forms clones or ACF Better. Don't ask for me to do your homework either, asshole, so if you're suspiciously specific I'll set my dragons on you. Bonus points for weird and pointless.
I just released a plugin that accesses Fuck Off As A Service (www.foaas.com) through shortcodes, so hopefully that gives you an idea of the sort of attitude I approach this project with.
OK, go!15 -
is vagrant box VVV always this slow to up the first time? because I don't need most of this stuff and I could have started a WP environment by hand already.4

OK, so, did my first 5 hour pre-interview coding test. it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be. now I can't decide whether to be chuffed at myself for not finding the test all that terrible, or beset with anxiety that it was too easy because I misunderstood and just handed in pure crap and I'll never hear from them again.8

fuck me. I started the night with the question "what are classes, in JavaScript?", did a lot of reading, and just came to the conclusion "religious colonialism.", and I didn't even read a single Crockford essay.
I'm just going to give up, go learn Haskell, get a lambda tattooed on my ass, and be done with it. -
dear brain, there is imposter syndrome and there is dunning-kruger. I don't care which at this point, but you have to pick just one.

True Story:
first thing I did today: got my tickets for a meat raffle at my friend's church.
second thing I did: took a call from the tech recruiter at PETA. -
Me: Hi! I'd like to apply for the front-end developer position!
Them: Mmhmm. What's your education? It involves a lot of javascript.
Me: I recently earned a certificate in javascript development for front-end, on top of my professional experience.
Them: What's you're experience?
Me: 8 years of professional front-end development.
Them: Hmm. That won't work. What about this job, Implementation Specialist?
Me: So I have to help the customer write requirements, train the customer with new software, write documentation for the customer... you want me to apply to be in customer support?
Would I have spent the last 8 years of my life learning and earning programming if I liked dealing with people?3 -
is there such a thing as specializing in maintaining legacy apps? because I'm pretty sure that's what I'm actually best at.4
-
that moment when you realize that all the incompetent bastards people complain about on devrant have a job, and you currently don't.1
-
did you know Verizon fios's own outage monitoring page isn't optimized for mobile? it's true. ask me how I know.2

when there's full-on nulear war in the kitchen between team vim and team emacs, and you're at your desk using sublime text and actually getting shit done.5

True story: after waiting a week for a recruiter to get back to me, he calls for an intake evaluation at 8:45 on Monday morning. I happen to have taken my mom to the emergency room at 6am. (she's fine, btw)
Him: So, do you have a few minutes or is this a bad time?2 -
Sales guy: I mean, at the end of the day, coding is just typing, right?
Me: You've got to be kidding me.
Other coder: *ignores us because he's three hours into refactoring his vim customizations on a $500 imported dvorak keyboard*
Me: Ok, maybe sometimes.
