I am still in college and will be going for a job next year. I want to learn Java with all the best practices associated with it. What I would like to do is do a large enough project that would enable me to learn industry standards and use the best practices(effective java etc) in actual code.

So I would ask the devrant community to give some project ideas that would use these practices extensively. I don't know if I am making myself clear here, but any help would be appreciated.

This is where my idea tombola would come in handy, but it's just yet one of my side projects I've never finished.

@smkc A tombola is also called a raffle, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.... My idea tombola is a program that generates random ideas by combining different techniques, types of products, themes etc.

Thank you so much for the suggestion. I have also got effective java and jcip on my reading list. I will definitely give them a read. Also if you had to give out a project idea that might utilize them, what would you recommend? Again thanks for the suggestion. @kgbemployee
