Phone not shipped out for nearly two FUCKING months.

Messaged the seller a few times, hardly any response and always 'very sorry ship soon'

Just threatened to cancel the order and get my money back.

Got a 'item has been shipped' two FUCKING minutes later.

MOTHERFUCKER YOU ARE GOING TO GET THE MOST SHIT REVIEW EVER.

PLEASE START TAKING YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES.

FUCKING FUCK YOU.

@ThatDude Yeah mostly like three weeks for me 😞😫
  • 0
Yeah this is why I don't bother with online purchases from individual-run resellers. That and customs being garbage
  • 2
@TheCapeGreek Well I had a low budget, the phone has great reviews and I'm getting some good specs at a great price!
  • 2
@TheCapeGreek Oh and its AliExpress by the way :)
  • 0
@linuxxx No clue about their reputation tbh. I only know local ones here. Wootware for hardware, Takealot for everything else.

I wish you luck on the delivery though!
  • 2
@TheCapeGreek the biggest online Chinese webshop in the world 😅
  • 2
@ThatDude Tbh i ordered the phone directly from the producer 😅
  • 1
It probably takes more than 2 minutes to ship a phone there brother.

Sorry to be a downer but he likely just said your item was shipped to placate you.
  • 2
@jamescodesthing Well he had some valid points at the beginning which I believe and he didn't say it, the app notified me :)

AliExpress is like really good on customer protection though? in my experience, seller's will do anything for a good review.

Had a similar experience with banggood once though. I sent a phone back for repairs, and they said it never arrived. after three months they agreed to send back a refurbished device instead. turns out, it was my exact fucking phone, recognisable by the exact fucking huge pink sticker I put on the back of it! needless to say, I never ordered there anymore.

@balte AliExpress and Allianz have a deal or something now so that you can get your devices repaired (within warranty) at an Allianz location or something like that :).

Also, welcome and hello fellow dutchie!
  • 2
wow, really? isn't that stimulating grey import then? I can't imagine the government tax department likes it!

    also, you're dutch? that's awesome!
  • 2
@balte Yes I am haha! Just wondering how far Eindhoven is away from where I live again hmmmm.

Well you pay import taxes anyways so they're not loosing much money I'd think :)
  • 2
@linuxxx if you have to wonder, it's probably pretty far haha

trololol eh? hmm, the Efteling isn't that far away right?

I've never payed import taxes before I think? usually things are shipped as "gifts", or "broken" and with lower estimated value and they just pass customs without notice.
  • 2
@balte It's not that far actually! (i live around the Arnhem/Nijmegen area) I'm just terrible at estimating distances 😅.

And I've paid races on AliExpress things before! This is my 4rd phone through Ali :)
  • 1
@linuxxx it's reasonably far when you don't have a car, I suppose. public transport isn't as awesome here as in the randstad!

I've only ever had to pay a USPS fee on a package that came from America, never any taxes :o
  • 1
    @balte True haha.

The phone comes from china which is a completely different case mostly (or at least it has been for me)
  • 1
@linuxxx yup, that USPS fee was the usual "international packages fee", nothing to do with customs! but I've only bought for over 50 bucks in China like 3 times, so maybe my next order is statistically determined to be "caught"
  • 1
@balte Tbh my new phone is only 118 euro haha. But the specs though for that price 😍
  • 1
@linuxxx yeah specs are always awesome! beware of malware though, but you obviously already knew that.

I have a nexus 5x, and although lacking on paper, it's an oddly good experience? especially when you get Android 8.0 within a month of release on OTA.
  • 2
@balte Of course haha. I'll put some custom rom on it :).

Won't receive OTA updates from Google at least since I'm not going to install gapps and will block Google on the phone =)
  • 1
@linuxxx oo I've been thinking about going google'less for a little! especially with the sleepwet (which I think can't be prevented, maybe put off for a while but not forever)

but I can't live without WhatsApp. all my social contacts live on there for now. maybe I can setup a relay though for informal unprotected conversations.
  • 1
@balte Yup the damn sleepwet :/.

I've nearly been going Google less (still use the playstore but not for long anymore, and payments to devRant!) for a year or something now :).

(not trying to convince you to drop WhatsApp) I used WhatsApp with tons of people and then Facebook bought it. I dropped it instantly even though I kind of needed it.

Going three years without WhatsApp now (Signal user here) and although its not easy sometimes, still managing :).

@linuxxx I feel like I either have to go completely anonymous everywhere (but I'd have to stop using my current usernames and accounts as well) or it doesn't matter because I'll be trackable anyway. content of messages is already encrypted in WhatsApp.

setting up my own secure infrastructure would be a good first step though.
  • 1
@balte The own infrastructure thingy is a good one yes. On the other hand, it's always good to try and protect your data!

WhatsApp encryption. Well first, their code is closed so there's no way to verify if their crypto is good. Secondly, they save so much metadata that you hardly need the content anyways :).

But yeah I get as a dutchie that its hard to throw it away!
  • 1
uhu. but installing Signal from the play store is just as much about trust as whatsapp's crypto. ultimately, one would build the apk themselves and sideload. but to do that in an effective way requires infrastructure as well. and then I'll take the inconvenience of toggling sideloading for granted.

that's why I like linux so much: configure & build.
  • 1
@balte True! I've used signal through the playstore for a while but about to install a custom rom on a temporary smartphone and Signal is also downloadable through the site I thought :).
  • 1
    @balte You a linuxer as well? :D
  • 1
@ThatDude According to the devrantron site about 60 percent of those users are windows people so I doubt it :/

    @ThatDude good I'm not a kid then 😋
  • 1
@linuxxx awh yeah I'm totally into linux! and I'm really looking at Qubes OS for more security and privacy, but I'm a little afraid the battery life will suck.
  • 2
@balte A girl into Qubes OS/Linux who lives in my country. Mother of God! (not flirting or anything but just damn)

I hope they ship you a rock.

Which phone is it? Lol @mundo03
  • 1
    @WorstVarNames Umidigi C Note 2 :)
  • 0
Hows the camera? Usually those cheap phones have a terrible camera
  • 3
@WorstVarNames Reviews say it's fine but I'll have a look :). Tbh I hardly use cameras so even if it's shit I'll still use the phone a lot.
  • 1
@balte @linuxxx Sleepwet sounds like a sexy dream in English 😂
  • 2
@bittersweet It translates to 'drag law' haha :P
  • 1
@linuxxx I know, fellow Nederlander 😉 I don't speak Dutch a lot anymore though, with internationally sourced coworkers and girlfriend, my brain had trouble with your sentence 😁

Who buys a phone from some sketchy online dude.
  • 2
@awnumar 'some sketchy site' aliexpress is the biggest webshop in the world really O.o
  • 0
@linuxxx You misquoted me, but I'll bite.

Ali-express is a shitty marketplace full of gimps and knockoffs.
  • 2
@awnumar this will be my fourth phone from there. The previous ones worked very well!
  • 0
@ThatDude Fair enough. I still wouldn't buy anything substantial from there. Would rather put my trust in someone like Amazon.
  • 2
@awnumar Oops I see the misquote, apologies!
  • 0
@ThatDude I guess you get what you pay for. I've been using Amazon for *years*, and never had a bad experience.

But whatever I guess lmao. My original comment was about the dude doing the selling, not even the marketplace.

If Linuxxx drops his "most shit review ever", the reseller can pack his things and try to reopen his store in another galaxy.

SPOILER: It will not be successful either.
  • 2
@Byomeer ill just give them a one star rating, that's all :)
  • 0
@linuxxx well, nevermind... i hoped to see one of your premium rants somewhere on Ali Express =D
