When I started learning to code I couldn't wait to become a 'senior dev' thinking I would spend all my time writing awesome code.

Now that I am a 'senior dev' and have the experience I now spend 90% of my time documenting & planning and even less time coding :'(

Or do I have more more free time as a junior?

What should I enjoy while I am a junior? Because I can't wait to be a medior but what do I give up?

@incognito It's because when a junior fucks up he fucked up but isn't directly responsible. If a junior introduces a bug that costs the company millions very rarely will he be fired because it is his seniors fault. Its the difference between who is responsible and who is accountable from my experience.

Yeah, I've found that the "Senior" appellation typically means, "has to sit in more meetings."

I feel you. But a good programmer documents 😊 and you won't have to bother about writing same old similar functions for various projects anymore as a senior. If you miss coding, you can always learn new language or new frameworks or just start your own hobby projects. Cheers!

@mrlinnth lol it's not that. Quite simply better planning reduces the amount you code drastically so it's kind of a natural progression with experience. It's just not what I expected from the outset. I actually quite enjoy planning, it gets me excited
