    well I mean, they KNOW that there are free versions of code editors out in the market. They would want you to use those.

    Remember, its all about money, how much profit u can make with spending as little as possible. For them, its about instant gratification rather than following good software practices, with long term goals in mind.

    @SidTheITGuy A decent IDE is exactly how you work towards that instant gratification. The code quality? Probably identical. The speed? A crap load slower if it's not an IDE you're familiar with.

    Fortunately this was one I managed to get overturned pretty quickly.

    @SidTheITGuy when doing cost saving on tools it's always important to take the time, money and frustration in consideration if you do not have the tool.

    A jetbrains license offsets that pretty quickly if you take the dev salary and amount of hours a dev uses it into consideration.

    This is penny wise and pound foolish.
