I'm a Facebook user and I demand devRant to be exactly like Facebook, I don't want to miss any feature from Facebook.

That's pretty much what he was telling you, I don't understand how these people think :\ -
w4tsn33837y@gitpush me neither. I actually tried to understand his thinking, but there was only little reasoning. Just "but I want Google and mimimi"
Btw. I work here for a public service institution which makes it even more questionable, hence my effort to make them move asap to another solution. -
@justwellbrock I sometimes give up on convinsing others it's just time wasting especially when they are like: I won't this just because I want it!
-
@Jop- yeah, doesn't make sense for me. @justwellbrock what is the main purpose from business perspective to move away from Google and look for other platform. Are they using Google services for companies (with their domain configured) or just free accounts?
-
bahua128037yAfter 17 years of Outlook and Lotus Notes, I would love to work in a place with Google apps
-
w4tsn33837y@ocalderon they are using the business apps with custom domain.
The problem is since it is a public service institution it is questionable under german law to use a service like Google that does not guarantee the location of sensitive data to reside only on german ground hence under german privacy law.
@Jop- from a user perspective I totally understand that. Legally it's just a nightmare though :S -
w4tsn33837y@Condor when I started to switch to ddg it was the same way for me. After some time though the results startet to get better and eventually reach the same level. If there is something I cannot find with ddg I type !g infront of the query. Interestingly enough experience shows it's not garunteed that I find something on Google that I couldn't find on ddg.
A friend of mine stated that I may switched the way I think about search queries hence the better results on ddg. Never thought about that though :) -
w4tsn33837y@Jop- if you have a look at the privacy terms there are indeed special terms you can negotiate with them. BUT, nowhere is actually stated that the data will reside in germany, which is the basic problem.
-
w4tsn33837y@Jop- wait. Microsoft is a complete different story. They provide explicit terms with the guarantee that data will reside in germany (or Europe as of 2018). If we wouldn't use the email feature for privacy relevant information plus restrict our users to not use Google drive for sensitive data it could workout though.
Off-topic: to have a governmental institution switch from free software to proprietary... This is fucking bad enough in my opinion. I want to refer to the public code initiative for the basic idea here: https://publiccode.eu -
w4tsn33837y@WorstVarNames I know people that are active in the cyber security field (also politically) and if they say that this shit is real, I trust them. Besides the evidence you can read written by experts in the field.
Which does not mean you should trust me and my words just because of this though.

Me: "We are gonna move away from Google services."
Him: "Ok. Just make it EXACTLY like Googles services. I won't use anything with less features."
Me: "Look, I can offer you something with more privacy and security under european law. It may not be EXACTLY like Google. If I could do that I wouldn't be here obviously."
Him: "As long as I'll work here I'll not work with something less than Google."
Inner me: AAAARGHHH FOR FUCKS SAKE!! I'LL STICK THOSE GOOGLE SERVICES UP YOUR ARSE SO THEY CAN SPY ON YOUR FUCKING GUTS!"
Me: "Well, in this case I'm glad that you are not alone to decide that."
