Thoughts on Session as a secure messenger? It looks fine at a glance, especially not using PII like a phone number, but I haven’t delved into it — and honestly don’t have the mental energy to.

What’s everyone’s thoughts on it?

Without any PII, how does the key exchange works? You have to physically meet? By this reason alone it seems quite private in theory but hard to scale.
Check how good is the usability for low-tech users, it is often the bottleneck for privacy-first applications.

@JsonBoa You exchange a long hex code; those are your respective IDs.

    I like Signal

@MammaNeedHummus me too. Just curiosity about other options.

The benefit over Signal seems to be that the person you're talking to can't know who you are unless you tell them. That's not a concern in most messaging services.

I’ve used it for a while. My biggest issue was how slow the messages were transferred. Sometimes not even sent. If you just sent a big image, good luck sending something else after that.
That being said, things might’ve changed for the better.

Your identity is, I think, super safe since you only provide some sort of a hash to your peers who want to contact you on the app network.
