my job fucked up.

I thought i had x amount of (paid) holdiays left (according to the online platform) so I took them for december. they were approved and now the "human resource" person double checked it and apparenlty it was a technical fault.... They got changed to unpaid holidays without checking in with me...

Is that legal?? Bunch of clowns

    "is this legal?" - without any information about which country you work in, noone can give you any reliable information.

    i'm very certain it'd be illegal in germany.

    but i'm a realist, so my opinion would be: doesn't matter, since your employer can afford better lawyers than you.

    @tosensei Belgium, sorry.

    Depends, it could be claimed that it’s your responsibility to know how many days you have taken already.

    On the other hand if they approved them as payed they should probably inform you about the change.

    If there is no confirmation that its payed it could be more in the grey zone.

    But as mentioned, you probably need to check with some local expert.

    @wojtek322 don't apologize, it's not your fault ;P

    @wojtek322 no it is not without a decent explanation. You are entitled 20 office days in a year by law, plus any other days they grant you , not including bridge days

    F you count up your holidays you should know how many you have. They have to grant you these days or pay them out.

    I did a similar thing in sweden. First year (not a full vacation year) I got a certain amount of paid vacation days and some unpaid, but the system only showed total amount.
    It got it sorted out by working a bit longer days for a while to cover the few unpaid days I took.

    Oddly enough, so far with my chatGPT experiments, its been super accurate with highly specific legal questions... assuming you phrase it differently a few times. Not the best with US laws, but knew tons for Myanmar, Austria, Germany, south africa, and a handful of other countries i checked. Low to Medium levels of criminal law, financial laws, stuff like workplace harassment and liability.. all quite accurate.

    I'm still pretty shocked it gets anything right in german tbh... cuz it has completely made up entire new songs, in english, when asked for an interpretation of song lyrics.
    best so far= ACHTUNG: BIELEFELD, die Ärzte... a song about embracing boredom that never actually mentions the city Bielefeld at all... it made a warm-hearted anthem to the town, in english, then kept apologising for the mistake, even prepending the actual first 2 paragraphs... followed by the completely made up song. I really want to see the code that caused that.

    Anyway, might give a clue where to look.

    Yay... now I have something fun queued to motivate me to get shit done so I can go play with toys... like whoever's dumb enough to spam ads claiming to be a hacking professional with a gmail contact address on an app/site for devs that are annoyed and/or looking for something to do while procrastinating 🙄... pretty sure thats consent right?🤩
