Why does everyone dislike php and WordPress?

I’m almost tempted to say, scroll down and find wordpress rants.

So wordpress: blogging platform that has somehow become a garbage dump from the plugin community to force a basic blog platform into an ecommerce, spam campaign platform with zero guidelines and rules about what plugins should and shouldn’t do which end up injecting random chunks of code all over the templates.

As for PHP: everyone loves to ride a bandwagon of hate, and think “their” language is far more superior then anything else.

PHP is fine. I love PHP. WordPress is a piece of shit.

PHP used to be bad. Now it is a little less bad. But then again, most other languages are bad, too.

PHP used to be a steaming pile of rhinosauraus crap. It's gotten better, but it's still manure. 😋

Generalities aside, there are a lot of very specific issues with php. Most of these stem from the fact that it breaks language guidelines such as consistency and minimizing developer effort.

PHP is the only mainstream language I disapprove of. (Okay, PHP and VB.)

WordPress...
Take a bunch of horrifically terrible devs who only know PHP, have never bothered to look at any other language, who also refuse to follow any best -- or even standard -- practices (especially concerning security), and who view everything as a problem to be fixed (or overridden) with plugins. Compatibility between these plugins is anyone's guess, shoddy code is rampant and pandemic, and insecurity is a foregone conclusion. This leads to the whole WordPress ecosystem being basically strangled by its own toxic pollution.

However, the influx of fresh projects (and therefore money) by hapless, ill-informed individuals wanting cheap websites keeps the community alive despite the above.

@C0D4 i actually got this question from all the rants on this app, I just didn't quite understand them as my dev knowledge is quite limited for now haha.

Thanks for the explanation everyone! I'm a self taught dev so I still don't quite understand most of the rants on this app haha.

Heck I've been a .net developer for almost half a year now and only just recently learnt what CLR is.

I have no idea how I got my job. 🤔

PHP: Because when people can't become expert in sth, they call it shit.

WordPress: Shit.
