All the best mate. Life is too short to be filled with sadness.
-
Better days ahead. Keep your head up.
-
*tech debt
-
It looks like you channeled your energy to the right quarters and spent more time living a life away from your computer. Congrats on getting your wife pregnant!
-
It's a terrible culture that's very difficult to change. People just click the accept without even looking.
I have tried to show them by my actions that a PR needs a proper review. Through this, I have earned the praise and trust of everyone with consistent proper reviews. Now, they all want me to review their PRs before deploying. -
I find that this only happens in startups, correct me if I'm wrong, and it has it's pros and cons.
It exposes you to different things which is definitely a plus for your career. On the other hand, you are not adequately rewarded for the skills your bring to the party which is a shame. -
That's what happens when a project is being managed by a PM that doesn't understand what it takes to deliver/implement a task.
-
@electrineer yea I agree.
-
You got this mate. I'm sure they hired you for a reason, so stop fretting.
No one expects you to hit the ground running on day one. Ensure you read all the documentation available to you, especially new joiner stuff if they have one. Also, try to form a good relationship with the people you are going to be working closely with.
All the best -
@dan-pud The issue is i'm not the only with approval rights. Everyone in the team can do so. He just circumvents me and gets approval from others. The other fucking nutjobs in the team also ignore my comments on a PR and approve! It appears they just want to create tech debt because it's a consulting gig with a client.
-
@sbiewald Oh yea, I know about that. I thought AD only remembers the last 8 passwords. Thanks for the clarification.
-
@Bandic00t Oh I didn't know that. Cheers mate.
-
I have used it recently and i quite like it. You can actually test your workflow locally with https://github.com/nektos/act. I suggest you check it out.
You can pass env vars and secrets that otherwise need to be picked up from your report secrets to the command line tool. It should save you from commits with fuck it, is it working?, Holy shit, what da fuck... -
@NoToJavaScript Are you for real? 1 week to complete your test for a senior role? That's mental mate. Nobody worth their weight in gold would put that much time in a test, certainly not me.
I don't get the obsession with giving applicants test to complete that takes days. I believe there are better ways to evaluate a candidate's abilities. -
@Jedidja The validation does fuzzy matching I think to see if you have used a sequence of characters before.
-
Holy shit! Just when you thought you have seen it all.
-
@armashfankar Not that I want to be a bearer of bad news. Are you sure the problem is not going to resurface again? Have you identified the root cause?
-
@mundo03 Yes. I inadvertently assumed if you choose to use docker for local development, you intend to deploy your stuff as a container.
-
Yay! We have a new convert!
Only excel people should be using Windows, no disrespect to them. I don't get why a dev would choose to set themselves back several years by using a Windows PC, unless ofcourse it is company policy. -
Don't worry. You will love it so much, you will go back to your old ways of local development where everything works on your machine but not after deployment.
Don't be that guy that says it works on my machine after his deployment breaks production app. Docker is your friend! -
@atheist Hahaha. You gat some jokes.
-
@Fast-Nop Microsoft AD doesn't allow you to do that. The password validation checks for values that have previously been used.
-
@Berkmann18 I get your point but it will be a bit difficult typing out a randomly generated alphanumeric pass accessible from a different device.
The underlying issue here is that over time people will get lax with their passwords if they change it long enough. -
All the best mate. You will soon look back at this period with a smile.
Be positive. You are almost there. -
@thirdworld All the best mate. I work as a snr devops engr now and i cant stress how many tests I have had to do on hackerranks and the likes. It is not only for the Web devs. I even did one last years for a infra sec role.
-
@craig939393 A password manager is great for online accounts but certainly not for mac login. I can't access the password manager if I'm not logged in on the mac.
-
@magicMirror Not necessarily if he/she knows their stuff. However, we know not many of them are that good!
-
@thirdworld To be honest, I was lucky. My wife had already moved abroad (her dad has been living abroad for decades) and I only had to join her. It wasn't easy to be honest but we scaled through after 2 years of separation.
That said though, if that wasn't the case, I certainly would have left through other means. I was getting job adverts from abroad whilst still living in a third world but didn't pursue them as I had an alternative.
If you are keen, I will suggest you look at job adverts with visa sponsorships and start practicing on hackerrank. Most companies use that nowadays especially for applicants from abroad. -
I know how you feel mate. I used to envy my peers when I was in a third world country. The pay was good amongst my peers back home for sure but not comparable to that of my peers in Europe or the US. I would see job adverts for positions abroad and marvel at how much money they make.
What did I do? I moved abroad. Now earning double of what I used to to see in the job adverts those days working for a multinational company I couldn't get in back home!
Life is good.
I know not everyone can leave their home and jump on a plane. I will suggest you look for remote jobs in countries with little to no taxes or cut a deal with a potential employer during negotiations to supplement your take home due to the tax deductions you are getting. -
IE!!! The most devilish browser of all time. I once had the nightmare of supporting IE7 and IE8 for a company owned video player and admin portal a few years back. I wouldn't wish that on anyone not even my enemies.
