@AlmondSauce thanks!
The previous lead left and left me in charge so I'm kind of stuck with the team I have right now 😅
But that's valuable insight, thank you! -
@craig939393 thanks, that was very helpful! And kind of in line with my experience.
-
@Hazarth haha, funny, that's exactly what we did, hire someone new. They're actually listening to him even less because they don't know him, they at least knew I was good so there was some respect at least. With the new guy they're more apprehensive, although I'm sure that will change with time.
-
I recently took a demotion for pretty much this reason. If they're not gonna listen to me then might as well just take my tickets, do my dev and not worry about larger things...
Some people just don't work well with others... -
@Xoka very happy I could help! Feel free to send a message if you have any more questions!
-
Let's say you have no dev problems, no legal problems and no cost problems.
You will still need to ensure security.
Most acquirers won't allow you even to send them payments if they're not from a PCI compliant system.
You can visit the PCI council website to go through the requirements, there's a lot of them.
If someone attacks you and steals card numbers, you have a moral issue of could I have prevented this and you have a legal issue of whether it's your fault.
If you're not PCI compliant, it is legally your fault almost certainly which means large fines should something happen.
Legally, you have to implement Secure Customer Authentication for the PSD2 (in Europe at least), which means integrating 3DSecure 2 as well which is kind of a pain in and of itself.
I'd say it's very unlikely it's better to build it yourself. Even if it's a bit of a pain and cost to find an acquirer that can offer you a hosted payment page. -
I don't like it, sure, but I'm ok when someone who doesn't really know anything about the job says I don't do anything.
When a dev from the team I'm Principal Engineer of says this to me, after me dealing with all the shit (support, tools, setup, ...) so that he can focus on actual dev work.... I am left speechless... -
Anything is relaxing when you don't care about it :)
Security can be very stressful...
I suggest looking up ASVS, it's made by OWASP and is a good starting point to create a sort of a security checklist for your app.
When you have a checklist of issues you need to look out for it's much easier than when you just have to think about any possible way it could be insecure :) -
I work on a payment gateway and while Stripe is a good option if you can get it, if you cannot I'm sure you have other options.
We work with a bunch of acquirers and we mostly work with Card Present transactions, however since we're already a PCI compliant gateway we've built our own hosted payment page.
The tech/dev side is by far the smallest and easiest part to get done.
I've seen some acquirers offer hosted payment pages like Stripe do.
Try looking up acquirers that offer a hosted payment page in your country. -
The highlight of this for me was when I (the principal engineer) asked for a SQL server license for a new joiner and got the response "Why does this person need SQL server installed?".
This person was, of course, a dev.
After I explained all the team devs have SQL server because that's how we develop the damn app locally the response was that we can't have databases locally.
After asking them how we're supposed to work without having databases locally, I got a "We'll need to look into this"....
Thankfully they finally gave a green light eventually for us to have a local SQL server so that we can actually develop... I was getting ready to quit if they had said no... -
Until relatively recently I would want to go to a different company where things aren't so crazy, but wouldn't want to leave tech.
Recently though, I am dreaming of the day I can quit and go do something completely non-related to computers AND doesn't involve humans in any way for the most part. -
If you mark it as deprecated it will (by default) throw warnings, not errors, so people will still be able to use it, but get a warning that it's going to be removed in the future.
You'd usually mark it deprecated and then after a while mark it as obsolete (which throws errors) or completely remove it.
Of course, most devs ignore warnings, but that's their issue, not yours :)
VS will put squiggly lines under deprecated methods/properties though so it's more likely to be notices than your ordinary warning, but still not a guarantee since if it's not being used in new stuff and no one is opening the stuff where it's used again noone will see it.
Other than that, I don't know of any tools for what you're asking, but that's likely because typically your libraries are either public and you don't have access to all the usages anyway or private and you use them in your own solution or two and you know where they're used/it's easy to do it manually.
I'd deprecate+send a company email. -
@Stuxnet you can report spam, it won't filter out the rest of your mails, just the ones from the address you reported and it will be (hopefully) investigated by someone so similar emails (with enough reports from all users) get filtered out as well.
If it's pre-GDPR and it's from a uni list somewhere fair enough, but you can still do it if you click unsubscribe and they don't unsubscribe you (you can even report them so they get a fine).
That's all if either you, them or both of you are within EU. Don't know about US or the rest of the world if there's something like that. -
I'm sad I don't have a floppy disk anymore, had one until two years ago. Optical drive is still in this PC.
-
I just mark it as spam until Google (and with it a massive chunk of their intended audience) starts filtering them out (which is usually very quick).
If you send unsolicited emails, you are by very definition spam that should go into the spam folder. -
Update: I see now that it only happens if you have something after your caret. If it's a blank line you're fine... Still not an excuse to get through QA but at least it's not the very first test case, it's the second one *sigh*
-
As @linuxxx already said, the browsers do NOT do that automatically because it's a subdomain that you might want to or might not want to use... You can even have one website on site.com and another on www.site.com even though that would be confusing... There were religious arguments for using only one of them instead of both and with that, obviously, www camps and no www camps... Unfortunately, the standard is still to just use both to point to the same website... However, if you see a website that doesn't do both it might be actually a feature as opposed to a misconfiguration, depending on the webmaster.
Don't have references at the moment as I'm on my way to bed and it was a long time ago that I read up on that war (and haven't heard anything about that in years), but searching the web for www vs without www or something like that should yield lots of results on the subject... -
Hm, most of my exception variables are named ex, wonder what would happen if I moved to the dollar-first naming... :)
-
I fucking hate media so much! Fucking idiots that talk out of their ass. I nearly killed myself, but I'm happy I didn't because it would feed right into their fucking play. And now they don't ever mention me again because they realised how idiotic they were. Yet, they are partly the reason I'd love to fucking pour acid down their throats as opposed to just "turn the other cheek"... But if I did that, the fuckers I didn't get would just report that something like a game made me do it...
Fucking cocksuckers, I hope their genitals rot off!
You're the fuckers that give attention to people who kill themselves, who kill a bunch of people, etc... So instead of romanticising those fucking acts get the fucking facts out and fucking move on you cockroach dung piles!
* This rant might have triggered my PTSD, sorry :) -
@CodeKill I stuck a ton of post its to form a Super Mario figure out of them and none of them had anything written on them. Do you trust me? :P
-
Is the equalizer only in the API or is there an actual equalizer somewhere one can use? (With non Google Play Music apps)
-
@TheCapeGreek Not a Number years :)
It looks like the AJAX request failed, but the JS handler kept on truckin' with the undefineds :) -
I once ran to the bus stop because the bus was slightly ahead of me, the driver closed the door in my face. I ran alongside the bus to the next stop which is very close and managed to pretty much keep up with him and again he closed the door for me (not completely in my face as I fell a little bit behind, but still close)...
I wasn't even surprised.... That's fucking croatia for you... -
@Linux why an OLD dude, though? Are you ageist?
*Runs away*
Seriously though, people are too fucking sensitive. I have PTSD and as a result I lose my shit to the smallest things yet I don't fucking berate a person endlessly when they do something idiotic. We're ALL idiots sometimes, I don't care who you are or how smart you are or how PC you are or how disciplined you are or whatever, everybody fucks up sometimes.
Doesn't mean they should be bersted for it and doesn't mean that's what they're normally like.
And that's not even getting into whether it's actually the person that fucked up or was the fuck up in the eye of the beholder...
And even then there's a question of how serious the fuck up actually is...
In this case, there's nowhere near enough info (unless, possibly, if someone were to read all of OP's rants and comments and there's a sexist connotation in a lot of them) to claim sexism....
So chill all you watchdogs with those unfounded accusations. -
@n3xus both
-
And there's the actual gif :)
-
@n3xus DO IT! (Posts gif of Shia)
Disclaimer: I have PTSD so might not be a good idea to listen to me :D -
@n3xus burn that fucking place to the fucking ground!
-
@blauesocke I don't agree. I think it's about the same in terms of complexity, possibly even less complex. But the problem is that doctors don't always have the luxury of stopping to google something and the stakes are much higher (usually) in their job. Obviously if you're programming pacemakers or something the stakes are higher for you than a doctor, but generally they'll be much lower.

It's amazing how many muscles there are in the human body...
I cycle to work every day, uphill with strong headwinds often as well and I push myself so I'm in quite good cycling shape (my ass gives out before my legs do :D), but because of a trip this week I can't cycle, but I have a treadmill so I decide to try it out... I ran for about half an hour/~5km at about 9 km/h and my god I can barely walk now my legs are killing me, but slightly below the area that hurts from cycling :)
