Yup, alnmost all got compensation when they were fired.
But frankly we're only 2 devs in the entire company and there is almost no work left for us... So, yeah :/ -
13/10 good doggo

A part of a tech lead's job is imo to ensure code quality and technologies used. "Just deliver"-mentality has the tendency to introduce bugs and technical debt.
Depending on how long the software is supposed to live I might just see a guy trying to do his job. -
I think it depends on how the standup is used. In the end it is a tool. My current team prefers to use it as a quick: "Hey, I'm working on this might be going for that approach/am stuck need advice/ etc" in a technical language. That kind of standup is for the Devs.
But I also had standups where it's just reporting to management what's already on the board . Those kind of standups suck. -
Since I was a young teenager I was addicted to mmorpgs. I had serious trouble fitting in at school and the games helped me escape.
When I became an adult and those troubles faded I started to notice over the years that I wasn't playing for fun anymore. It was not fun at all, it felt like a job.
Then after some more years unsuccessfully trying to kick the habit I decided to go cold turkey and gave away my gaming PC.
Seriously, you do not notice how much time gaming takes away from you until you decide to cut it out. I had no idea what to do with my newly won 25h/week. So I started some hobbies that do not involve a screen. -
Eh, I do not agree with a some of points on this list. But forcing someone who is more productive in Homeoffice to come to office is a waste.
Unfortunately this happens... for many reasons, including the manager being a control-freak. -
I can' t help but feel a bit insulted by 'diversity hire'. I want to be hired because I am the best candidate for the job and my professional knowledge. not because I happen to be born female...

@Zer0day Sure, I can try.
I started coding at the age of 22. Before that I had no idea what I wanted to be and what to do with my life. I had trouble finding a job because I had no direction or 'skills'. This led to some problems with my self-worth.
Then my partner introduced me to some simple coding. And I wanted more. It turned out I had a knack for this and learned very fast. The thrill of learning new and exciting things and being able to try and apply them immediately lifted me up. After some time I knew "This is what I want to do!".
Now I work in the field as a lead developer and have amazing coworkers that I appreciate and in turn appreciate me.
tl;dr: Had no job, no skills and no perspective which led to insecurities. Thanks to coding I found a job I am passionate and confident about. -
Women fart rainbows and poop butterflies. That is common knowledge.

That was fun to read. Going to try it.

Had depression and got therapy.
What helped me best was to look after myself, allow myself to be lazy sometimes, try new hobbies, sports and regularly go completely offline in free time. -
Personally I really like it if it is a person I pair well with. Actually getting into the zone together feels freaking amazing.
If it is a dev I do not pair well with, it is meh at best.
So I think it really depends whether the pair clicks or not.
Also, managers dictating that everything has to be done in pairs, are morons. Just because it is shiny and new and you heard o so much about it, it doesn't 'just work'. -
Testing is a powerful tool that helps building cleaner code with less dependencies. I am sure there are great, experienced devs out there that can do that by default. Just put out wonderful, readable code that is working from scratch without tests.
But frankly, my bet is they are less than 1 in a million. I do not know your senior, but from the chances given I wouldn't bet he is one of those prodigies.
I wish you best of luck trying to turn his opinion around. -
I feel this rant more than I'd like to.
