I think one should know both method of debugging well. Sometimes a little interactive shell session teaches me more than any debugging. (In JS or C# for example)

It is never to late to start something, it hasn't to the target to absolutely master it.
I can relate to some parts of this very well. As i was junger I thought that the people with more live-experience knew better than me and I'm just not experienced enough.
You can try to constantly to find / redefine what you are excited about and how to get there :-)

Actually, I once did something like this with two windows computers. I was able to logon to the frozen windows via RDP using a different account and stop the process which locked up the other session.

Because to be limited by a application configuration sucks.
