My Linux machine completely froze up so I used another Linux machine to ssh into it and kill the misbehaving process.

Sometimes when it freezes you are still able to switch to another TTY and do the same thing.

Try that with a Windows...

Actually, I once did something like this with two windows computers. I was able to logon to the frozen windows via RDP using a different account and stop the process which locked up the other session.

Just change the TTY
