C-Basics don't hurt anyone.
Dependent on how fast you want to see results and what the requirements of your future projects will be, you might necessarily end up with C++
Anyway C is slightly better in performance where C++ is easier to manage and (just my 50 cents) read if your code needs to be reviewed or maintained by others due to OOP. -
Software is all about fulfilling customers needs. If someone is happy/pleased by open source software, why would a dev really mind?
Of course you always can compare (at least) some properties with a payed sw but for which reason? If ones needs are covered up by the open source sw I don't see a real point for that comparison. 🤔 -
Javanaut... Even if I try to resist now and then.
-
Usually you search reliable libraries first before you implement objects that basic.
Or does he refuse to search the net? 🤔 -
@FinlayDaG33k
True. As return you'll get a pleased customer and user who trust you and your future projects. I suppose you even will get less support issues and configuration failures.
I don't know which type of sw we are talking about but in the company where I work (developing standard sw for medical context) we have employees called "Project Manager" which handle projects with customers and not the "internal sw-projects" themselves. -
User feel much more safe with the software if they know what they are doing.
Imagine you couldn't ride a bicycle and you have to learn it. Would you rather watch videos and read instructions or would you like to have bicycle lessons with some who knows exactly what to do and how to help you with the mistakes YOU make? -
How cheap...
And people really fall for that? 🙄 -
I learned C in my vocational training. Later C# at university and at work.
Meanwhile I even have to deal with some C++ components from time to time. It's like the missing link if you know C and C# already.
So depending on your experience with the C family and depending what level of skill you need I also would recommend to start with the C basics. With C basics you are ready for C++ basics as well.
Then it's on you to decide which language fits to your projects the best. This of cause depends on the requirements. -
@vhoyer ... and now he needs a senpai to teach him how to code smart.
-
So he didn't really learn How to use it.
It's like - I guess everyone knows some chess-rules. But to play it properly is a different thing. 😏 -
Nothing to add here...

Sometimes a "Thank you dude. " would be enough, right?
-
I suggested that jff to the product manager once.
He was like "If you don't delete all features but just the unnecessary code... "
Who would leave "unnecessary code" in the product?! *rant* -
We are in this together, folks - so we do count!
At least we increment here at devRant. :/ -
Hentai1977 would be creepy af. 🤔
