Given a stable release, the question that always needs to be asked is "Does this release deliver new value to the end user in some way?" It could be a new feature, stability improvements, security improvements, etc.
If the answer is yes, then there should be almost no reason to hold the release. If the answer is no, then why is there even a release scheduled? -
The company should hire a PM.

@Root Sometimes companies already have a candidate pegged for a role, but legally they have to open the role up to other candidates as well. So they'll post the job, let their choice candidate apply, and then either immediately remove the role or just deny/ghost all other applicants.
But I don't see this happening so much that it's a majority reason. -
@Sid2006 Preach. I feel like if I were to take one of my principal roles on my resume with its carefully-crafted job description, and replace it with a 6-month stint as an Associate Software Engineer at Google with absolutely no job description listed, then I'd get exponentially more callbacks.
-
@Nanos This one isn't so much Engineering-related, but I think it's still cool to have and it's a great talking point during an interview: Look into the Inbound Certification via HubSpot. It's free and takes about 3 hours total online. It's a marketing methodology certification, and it's especially helpful if you're applying for any dev jobs at marketing companies
-
@Nanos I actually found that listing a couple of in-progress certifications on my resume really seemed to get companies more interested in me. I'm currently pursuing my CSPO (Certified Scrum Product Owner) and PMP (Project Manager Professional) certifications. I think that seeing an Engineer with certifications in product ownership and project management is attractive to companies, because much of our work involves managing the development lifecycle of a product/project in one form or another.
It was something that I could bring up during interviews in order to make myself stand out.
For example, I applied for a Software Engineer job at a smaller local company, and as soon as I mentioned that I was pursuing my CSPO and PMP, they expressed interest in bringing me on as a dual-role Software Engineer and Product Owner, because they were trying to move more towards an Agile methodology and didn't have a Product Owner yet. So they wanted me to split my time 50/50 between Product Ownership and Engineering, and believed that my previous experience as a Software Engineer would really bring some helpful perspectives to the Product Ownership role -
@AleCx04 Thanks buddy, I'm super excited and nervous at the same time hahaha. That comes with any new job though!
-
@sicjoke I like it! It's not as robust as something like Rally, but I like its simplicity and minimalistic UI. We use the free version so the features are a bit limited, but even then it still does the job and I haven't run into any big issues
-
@nitwhiz "It's the libs we make jokes about"
Like React 😎 -
@Ushandelukka Skype of Skype for Business? Seems like they're two different animals
-
@ReverendLovejoy @ReverendLovejoy A few of us have been using Teams and we've had very few problems with it. Maybe it just comes down to how our network/Skype for Business instance is configured
-
@gathurian Luckily Microsoft has said that they're retiring Skype in favor of Teams. Who knows when that'll actually happen though
-
@monkeyboy That's a fair point. It'd be nice if Microsoft provided the option for conversation history to be saved within Skype itself though (in addition to saving within Outlook)
-
Wooooo Angular!
-
@PaperTrail This person is the self-appointed Scrum Master, so maybe that's why she rambles on and on
-
@HoloDreamer She by far talks for the longest amount of time during SCRUMS. Easily 10x longer than anybody else. Most people just say "I worked on this feature yesterday, I will continue to do that today." She writes down literally every little thing she does throughout the day and reads everything to us. She even mentions things like "I updated Chrome and tested that everything was still working"
-
@Fast-Nop I was just about to say this. Went from using Git at my previous job to SVN with Tortoise at my new job, and I really don't mind it. It's been working great so far 😊
-
Happy birthday buddy!! 🍰🎂🍰🎂🎉🎉🎉
-
Thanks for all the responses! I'm meeting with the CEO for lunch next week, and then we'll see how it goes from there!
-
@arcadesdude Thank you!
-
Can't be as great as our Sales team. They'll say anything to get the sale. "Oh sure, this application can blow your nose for you and give you a massage while you sleep!"
"THIS APPLICATION DOESN'T BLOW MY NOSE FOR ME AND I WAS TOLD BY YOUR SALES TEAM THAT IT WOULD!!!!"
*sales team is already thousands of miles away in the Bahamas with their juicy commission checks* -
@electrineer Yeah I've tried multiple cables. I've read that this is a common problem with S8s, seeing as it was the first year that Samsung used USB-C in the Galaxy S line of phones
-
@Condor I know one guy who can solder, and he runs the local repair shop I mentioned so understandably he'd charge me for it hahaha. He mentioned that these phones are a real pain in the ass to fix
If it didn't involve soldering, I'd do it myself at home because I've fixed a bunch of phones. But alas, I have no soldering equipment
I've tried multiple charging cables, so it's not that. From what I've read, this is a common problem with the S8s. The charging port itself just gets worn out -
@neodite I charge my phone a lot a lot while driving, so ideally I'd like the port to be working. I should grab a new wireless charger though
-
OH NO THE SACRED TEXTS!!
-
@aldoblack We're owned by a company that just rolls around in piles of money and we're their only subsidiary that does this type of software, but we'll have some pissed of clients for sure 😂😂
-
My Note7 was great, and Samsung paid me $1,200 to send it back to them (after Verizon had already refunded me for it.) So I made out pretty well after that whole debacle 😉
-
Looks like a curved ultrawide? I have exactly the same setup at home with a 34" LG curved ultrawide, except with the vertical monitor on the right. Very nice! I want one of the 49" Samsung ultrawides but there's no way it would fit on my desk hahaha
-
Clean! I like it!
-
Sorry to hear that man, we're rooting for you! We know you'll find an even better gig before you know it! :)
