It's not even a language. It's a speaking disorder.
-
Same for me in my current job, working on a 12 year old codebase with frameworks that where state of the art 15 years ago.. Lesson learned: ask how much 'technical debt' there is in the existing codebase.
-
The only reason my pc is dual boot is for the games I like to play. If those games would just run natively on linux I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to remove windows.
-
As a matter of fact ... c# was created by Anders Hjellsberg who, before joining Microsoft, worked for Borland where he worked on Delphi. He created a love child crossover between java and object Pascal.
-
The touchpad is a last resort, just like letting air out of the tires of your hummer to get through the sandy/soft terrain.
-
Yeah ... my gaming habbits are the only thing that keep windows at my machine (dual boot) ... unfortunately wargaming (world of tanks/warships/warplanes) has no plans of supporting Linux natively .... and I hate fooking around with ‘wine’ or ‘play on Linux’
-
@odite I guess I put you on the 'offended' list, going by your passive-aggressive response ?
-
Why not try both and then decide on which you like best?
-
@Parzi actually ... I played this one as well. But in all honesty, comparing it to EvE is like comparing javascript to java :-)
-
Beware ... it has a tendency to become a second (unpaid) job .... especially if you get to live in null-sec
-
The SLA’s will kill you in 16 years time .... I know this from my own (triple project) experience ...
-
@Santaclauze ... There you go :)
-
@PrivateGER if you tell that to yourself often enough, maybe you will start believing that. Js is not a proper language, more like a speaking disability.
-
I take it you are a 'world of tanks' player?
-
@Santaclauze agreed, death metal is not for everybody ... and I do have a set of skullcandy headphones to wear when people come in ... the real gripe is that I offer people to play music THEY like, but they almost never come with something.
-
Wish I had asked how large the 'technical debt' of the current system/code base is and what/if they where planning on fixing that in the foreseeable future ...
-
I’ve got a harddisk partition full of projects like yours
-
Night king ... always +1
-
@katbreitin I was thinking exactly the same thing, and yet I'm pretty sure we're not collegues :-)
-
@TheCommoner282 I already did, it"s called "Devrant" :)
-
@Ubbe ... no I’m pretty sure it is JS alright
-
I've stopped explaining my work/day to my Wife ... When she ask how my day went, I simply stick with things like 'Had a good day', 'Had a bad day' or 'It was ok' ... I'm so glad my youngest son (now 17) is turning out to be a programmer so I can at least explain/tell some stuff to one of my family members. ... My oldest 2 sons (21 and 20) operate much at the same levels of understanding IT related stuff as my wife though :(
-
Well , what’s not to hate about fooking JavaScript
-
JS isn’t a language, it’s a speaking disability

I didn't go to college either ... now have 25+ years experience ... recently had that very experience with not having a degree ... Had been on an assignment at the Dutch Tax department for over 3 years. Normally 2 years is the maximum time allowed but they where unable to find a suitable replacement. Eventually they came to me and asked if I would be interested to make the switch and become an 'internal' dev. We had some chats about how to go about it and if we would be able to find some common ground on salary etc. Everything looked rosy until they figured out my lack of a college degree... from one moment to another I was no longer qualified to fill a position I had already been doing for the last 3 years ... so silly ... and their loss

The new cult of green forbids mentioning the dark side ... of you do they will send their prophet ‘the almighty Greta’ over to chastise you
-
@Emphiliis actually ... they teach programming in object pascal, using an IDE called ‘Delphi’
-
Ah Delphi 4/5 ... now that brings back some fond memories .... I was a Delphi (object pascal) developer from version 1 until version 7.
-
@Jilano No problem at all ... I’ll be going to a little town called ‘Poujol-sur-Orb’
-
@sunfishcc Agreed, but there is a difference between adding your (new) certificates etc to your profile and 'broadcasting' it to the world.
