@jiraTicket Yeah it's absolutely crazy. Worked in a few companies like this and the running theme is that they think small business excludes them from the legal stuff and that everyone must muck in and do everything etc. Typically a pretty shit work environment. Can be good and have worked with some fantastic people - the bosses are usually narcists though

@retoor Breach of Privacy may have been the wrong choice of words. I believe there should be a boundary line when it comes to employment. They were not approaching me as a new client, they were approaching me as a past employee who currently has a dispute with the company. Email would be the correct form of contact as records should be kept. WhatsApp allows them to remove communication.
Granted, the request for help is a different subject to the dispute but in my mind the request would have been more suitable via Email. Has nothing about being "sensitive" and has everything to do with the right way to do things... -
@jiraTicket Firstly, your username gives me nightmares. Secondly, based in the UK. Was just personal WhatsApp from the boss as he has my phone number. Arguably a breach of privacy after being told to contact me via email only! Company is technically UK but it was only myself and the founder in the UK, the rest are india & south africa and all contractors

Appreciate all of the input here!
I had left it for a few hours and by the time I went to reply essentially saying - no. They had unsent their message.
Worked out in the end in my opinion. I wasn't prepared to work for them and fight to get an invoice paid! Really want to draw a line in the sand and move on from them (now in dispute over last pay check!) -
@tosensei they are not someone who I will ever give my time to for free now honestly. I left the company because I felt I had no choice due to the hostility and unprofessionalism in the business.
-
@TheBeardedOne Yes. All of this. aha
-
@retoor Okay fair enough, yes overused word aha. But it is pretty easy to get a good judge of the workplace from how the job listing is advertised and if you get an interview, it is then plainly obvious in MOST cases. Just my 2c of course but has been my experience so far.
-
@UberSalt Exactly what i've been doing. Today is the last day and I intend to do sweet fuck all :D
-
@BordedDev Dude, this week has been a snails pace aha! Just running out the clock! But today is the last day, have my letter of recommendation in hand and ready to sail off into the sunset!
Job search is rough but I'm not concerned -
@retoor Yes, been tasked with documenting ALOOOOT of stuff.
-
My last job it was 3 months. This one it just just 1 week so I am moaning about something that isn't a big deal. I just work with toxic people and it's a horrible environment. No holiday to use as it reset at the start of the year and they want me working until the last minute of the week!
-
@donkulator There is that. aha. I'm not actually a dev for the plugins, just been roped into doing this :'(
-
@vintprox Maybe we should use mm instead? Would help all these people when printing
-
The only thing to top this is when someone tries to use .X of a PX aha
-
@12bitfloat 100% this!!
-
@endor yep. In fairness, first time this has happened as I'm usually alright at writing atleast some reference but this was a bad one. Lesson to the younguns!
-
These times properly suck. You'll kick-ass and get there eventually! We're rooting for ya! (pun not intended)
-
Despite having build issues when utilising react, I didn't find it too bad. Having said that, it didn't utilise that many resources so I was happy with it. Currently rolled out to 30 users and is a training program with a substantial amount of content and packaged documentation.
Was ultimately a useful tool to get a cross platform application in a short time frame.
OTA updates were a plus too -
@Demolishun Thanks! Worked out in the end. 9 month agreement :D
-
A funny turn of events. An apology from the boss in question and a retainer signed so they keep me for 4 days a month for almost the same money as I was earning full time. They've decided not to hire someone else and to just outsource to me. Essentially just trippled the hourly rate they currently pay me 😏
-
@matyjb I laughed way more than I should have at that!
-
@netikras standard is usually 1 month. I tried to leave 18 months ago but decided it wasn't the right time so had to agree to a 3month notice period so if I decided to leave they had enough time to find my replacement as I'm the sole dev. They also wanted to try and make it harder for me to leave. Didn't work though 🤣
-
@bols59 he can worry all he likes! :)
-
@Demolishun yes this is genius! Who knows when they will hire a replacement.. I'm the only dev so eh...
-
@ethernetzero Ikr. I think that comment is what got to me the most. Do you think that little of me that I'm that stupid?!
-
@Jaspreet3480 sorry to hear that. It will make leaving all that much better though. Onwards and Upwards.
-
@Voxera indeed it was. Been holding out for 3 months to make sure I get paid to the end of the year!
Thank you! -
@TheCommoner282 This is pretty much my approach. Joy of being on salary is that I get paid either way :P
It'll be done, when it's done -
@BoomRaccoon hey, the fact it may be more like 2-3 isn't the point here! haha
-
Pretty much all of the above!
