@TerriToniAX hah, that's so much fun!
I miss console programming and lower level languages in general...
Mostly coding in higher ones at the moment. :/
I sometimes make native DLLs though which was is nice ha. -
@Byomeer that is incredible!
-
@Byomeer No worries. I can't find link with quick search.. but will keep an eye out anyway!
;) If it feels easier to you and doesn't cause issues then all is definitely swell.
Definitely good to have open discussions about it.
Never felt the need to use it myself, so intrigued with how people use it. Especially in higher level languages -
@Byomeer ha, unfortunately we can't format code.. think it's to limit posts with code to be honest... there's a full rant discussing it anyway.. I'll try and find link..
In that case there, I'd just wrap it up in a function. goto doesn't seem to be any more beneficial in this case.
https://justpaste.it/19q0v -
@Artemix thanks, I'll check some examples out.
-
@Byomeer .. unless you're using anonymous functions it shouldn't be that confusing. The names should be explanatory and it will make the code reusable and modular.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/...(v=vs.71).aspx
The example here can be rewritten to:
https://justpaste.it/19p64
Now it seems more readable and allows that code to be reused.
Because it's an MSDN example I doubt it's the best use of goto though. Haha
Can you send a snippet too where goto is preferred over functions? I'm intrigued! :D -
@Byomeer separate the work into functions. If you need to break out the parent loop too then it sounds like your work is done... therefore it's a return statement.
Each loop needs to take care of it's own flow. -
Edgar Dijkstra's 'goto considered harmful' paper needs a relink!
Show her this. Everyone needs Dijkstra.

"That must be some funny shit!" - @teadrinker 's coworkers.
Ha, thanks, appreciated. Had to spice up those sticker rants. -
Thanks @tnuhb :D
-
@tahnik, they'll get us to make it... and complain... thus generating more devRants...

@Gogeta70 "Losing my mind... Couldn't store (a) texture, with two channels, that have two samplers tied to it. The fuck?!"
This was in regards to WebGL 2.0.
Had a NPOT RGFloat 3D texture.
I created 2 samplers to feed into my shader, one linear filtered and one nearest.
I store and read raw bits anyway so ended up parsing the data into 2 separate RFloat textures anyway rather than one... I swear it should've worked but maybe I missed something ...
Also, with WebGL 2, there's no easy way yet to debug the shaders to see what was going on... -
@chadd17 that paper is amazing ;)
Flighted is also an option.
I recommend the modern office emu for in-house transportation of larger data, digital or physical, including people!
You got someone at the front desk wanting to get to R&D at the other end of your building? Emutaxi away!
Also the Dromaius Novaehollandiae can reach speeds of 30mph -- -- it brings hilarious entertainment and lunchtime wacky races which increases worker happiness tenfold. :D -
Only option then is to get on e(mu)-mail.
Gotta buy some of those well trainable and trusted office flightless birds. Can't go without them in 2017. -
:(
Any possibility of headphones to listen to your own stuff instead? -
@bittersweet ah man... that's such a damn shame!
-
@jordinebot ooOOoo, will do thanks!
-
Ah, gladly your secret is safe still!
As you actually are:-
BUTTMAN
THE BACKEND DEVELOPER -
@devios1 It can be your way too... but just add half!
Simple midpoint between two vectors. -
I'm guessing it's more paranoia.. senior Devs make bugs too, even the odd schoolboy ones!
Depends on context too obviously, like if it's common practice to do this sort of thing, especially if you're new. But either way you'll have to flag the bug. If he did it on purpose then surely he'll congratulate you for finding it and tell you it was a test.
Or, like @heyheni says, ask him directly. -
Je voudrais forquer votre dépôt
Definitely sexier in French too. -
Obviously for those extensive PowerPoint Particle Simulations and Excel physic solvers
D'uh ;) -
Keep it clear until you hit a bottleneck: Then optimise it if needs be.
But clear code can still be optimal. Don't assume that if it's easy to read that it's slow.. -
Argh, hope you can ignore them... absolutely piss boiling.
The UK, especially Newcastle, has a bad drinking culture; where it's to drink to get pissed on anything, irregardless of taste.
As a kid, it was mandatory to drink until you were upside down in a taxi heading to Diggerland.
Definitely love alcohol though -- just not getting blotto'd. A good Rioja, or a fresh Guinness, or a smoked whiskey definitely goes well with some music and good mates. Even whilst coding:

Subjective of course though, and that's why I hate these poeple who mock you. Fuck 'em. Enjoy what you like as they'll most likely 'live for the weekend' and be boring bastards themselves. -
@cheke .. yeah, they were using Scrum on the entire team... 20-25 people some days...
Bewildering considering the core points of Scrum immediately says keep it short to 15 mins like you say.
Too many rulesets and over micromanagement -
@theScientist agree wholeheartedly with quitting coding for a while.
Just do anything non - technical for a bit. Bugs will be fixed subconsciously.
Possibilities: Shower, have a biscuit, look at a tree, wave to a stranger, whittle, smash pumpkins, paint a beetroot, carve ham into LEGO... -
Haha, thankyou @sovietspy2

BILL CLINTON VIRUS: Screws other computers on the network and denies it.

@SteveWinfield yeah sorry, I meant it to be a statement of "surely it's the workflow not the monitor?."
Sometimes I have YouTube for TedX talks etc. but that slips sometimes and it does become a big distraction. Especially the rabbit hole that is YouTube...
I find multi-monitors useful for Unity / Web Dev as it has immediate (or near immediate) change that I can see whilst I code in the other screen.
Might be best to tailor the setup to the workflow rather than the workflow to the setup. -
If you're finding yourself distracted then I'm positive you'll find yourself being distracted even on one!
