Eldritch horrors lurk in the shadows of ancient code bases. They touch even the most brave programmer's soul and body. The tainted become vessels of pure evil, driven by basic instincts. Bright lights only hurt their eyes. But sun light is able to end their suffering. It shatters their soul, melts their skin and burns their flesh and bones until nothing is left but a puddle of tar xvzf pur33v1l.tar.gz.

@kiki I definitely have seen cats (stray and "owned") begging.
Often a cat's begging can be easily confused with just demanding payback of an ancient natural dept owned by any human to any cat though. -
@Lensflare So you don't bind over cleaning up cat puke?
-
Cats and dogs are both still predators. It's just that we sortof accidentally domesticated cats to hunt tiny game (mice and rats) on their own with no supervision needed while dogs proved to be waaaay more versatile and became tools for the hunt where fine-grained control over what is done when is of the essence.
So naturally, we selected dogs for obedience and bred specialized races for each task. It also helped a lot that dogs naturally live and hunt in small packs with a social hierarchy.
I like cats more too. But i would prefer a dog over a cat if i where a hunter-gatherer while i would really want a cat if i where a grain farmer. Obviously, both are good as emotional support animals with trained dogs also being good for guiding blind people, reminding people on taking their meds (also bringing them their meds when they need them). Modern city house cats and dogs are both dependent on their human food dispensers. -
When i feel like reading a nice story with a clean plot, i just look at my well-curated git history.
And there is nothing exotic about rebasing, cherrypicking and squashing. -
Some people just shouldn't have commit rights on the production branch.
-
Then don't. Just work from home.

Sure, there is a lot of economics going on in politics. But actual hate exists too.

Apart from reducing cognitive load for fellow humans, the annotations alse ensure that the compiler tells you if it disagrees with the type annotation. If you annotate by default, all those tiny type assertions together make type confusion bugs much more likely to get fixed before the first execution.

There are pretty good CRT emulation options in Retroarch. Let that old CRT finally rest in peace.

If this is a dungeon, play dungeonkeeper to get an idea about how an actual dungeon might be designed by an inteligent being.
If it is a cave system, try to find plans of actual caves and try to find patterns there.
When you know how the results should look like, you can chose the best algorithm to achieve that. -
@TeachMeCode They rot in the backlog for our sins.

You really need to touch grass. While you are at it, look closely at the grass. Also look at all the stuff surrounding that grass.
Sure, max detail raytrace-enhanced graphics of today are pretty impressive. But GPUs allowing to enjoy these are prohibitively expensive. I really hope, that China gets their ASML replacement sorted just like they did with solar cells - so we can all have super GPUs for cheap. -
Bruh, it's fine. You can't know what to expect without experience. Just keep experiencing life and don't overthink it.
-
@black-kite Sure, that works well too.
But if you want to use XTwitter (not affiliated with X (software), XOrg or XWindows) for whatever reason, the mute feature works just fine and 99% of the spam comes from just a few bots. -
Bruh, just go straight to Stack Overflow.
-
@aviophille No, but i would certainly download one.

Select a toolset and a model to use and stick to it until you got the POC working. You can then reevaluate the field and change things or not. Also try to use a local model instead of a service so you can freeze the state of the AI between product iterations and don't have to deal with sudden behavior changes.

@b2plane Airplane mode is for when you don't want your phone to log into a cell tower. It's great to save battery when you also don't want to be available for calls.
-
@aviophille Grats for finally cracking the illness and getting ahead of the demons.
-
POV: You are a horse breeder reading about a new invention called the automobile in a news paper that had been used to wrap fresh fish.
-
@aviophille You sound suspiciously sane though...
-
XTwitter works best when you just outright mute every user whose posts annoy you. Filter out the spam and what remains is actually okay.

Not once in my life have i experienced actual idle time in a software development job. Software is never done. There is always a lot to do and improve.
A deployment freeze doesn't mean that development stops. It just means that the well-tested and reviewed commits have to wait until after the freeze before actually being deployed on production. -
@aviophille Are you the really the real jase or just a clone?
-
@b2plane Sorry, you are too early for that. Jobless society has reliable AI as a hard dependency because someone still has to do the stuff that has to be done. and because humans are humans, if someone has to work, everyone has to work...
But you can try to find a relatively boring and safe job that is rather chilled, has no carreer path and pays enough for a single person's modest life. If you want to code after the job, make sure that the job isn't about coding. -
@b2plane Money just allows you to not do the things you don't want to do. It doesn't make you enjoy the things you do.
A modest life doesn't need much money and there are plenty of hobbies that don't cost much either. You don't need to be wealthy to have fun in life. -
I like that out here in the wilds there is no difference between holidays and any other day. Just nature and the old house not giving a shit about xmas.
But even before i left the city, i didn't care about the holidays much more. It's easy to not participate in the consumerism and just see the days off as days off. But if there are insanely discounted chocolate santas after xmas, i will probably get some then... -
You are mixing up AI with blockchain, NFT and Facebook's interpretation of the metaverse. AI is more like semiconductors while the other two are more like tulip bulbs. AI won't go away as it is a dependency of the next evolutionary step of automation.
